Out in my T shirt and shorts today in October. Fantastic outside and not 39C which I consider way too hot. I also avoided packed airports, considerable expense and all the headaches of packing and travel. Step outside and its absolutely Gorgeous in Edmonton in October.

26C in my outside sunroom reading a book after my chores and with great prairies sun on my face. Beautiful colored foliage all around. Go for a walk and leaves so thick its like walking on a soft blanket. Ravine walk yesterday, not to be missed this time of year.

Edmonton River valley and ravines are great in the fall. Best time of year for long walks.

Working at home with the office window open this afternoon. It would be a great day to watch some live football, but not only our CFL stinks but all the amateurs too, but one high school team is home. To the best of my knowledge.

We have such great Highshool football facilities in town too. Then Foote field as well that usually hosts some playoffs. haven't been in awhile but have attended some games there. Fantastic facility. Would go see Bears but the Football team usually sucks.

Gardening update:

Still have a bunch of Pepper and Celery plants alive in containers. Still producing. Just stick them outside on warm days then move them back in garage where it doesn't freeze overnight. Last year we kept some plants going a long time as well. Nice to still be getting garden Peppers and celery. Also Kale still going strong in garden and parsley as well. All frost resistant. Whenever we need it we pick parsley or Kale (usually we grow swiss chard) even after snow falls. The stuff stays fresh even under snow,

3 boxes of ripening tomatoes left, About 5lbs of onions left. Two hot pepper plants moved inside and we're seeing how long those last. Pumping them with fertilizer to see how long they will fruit. Time to make a good garden soup again.

For budding gardeners at least grow Tomatoes Peppers and Onions. So easy to grow these and in any containers at all. Taste of these is unparalleled to anything you get in stores. Carrots as well. Bumper crop this year but they need to be planted in garden, don't do well in containers.

I grew some Killer carrots in feed supplement tubs this summer. As big as any bagged carrots you buy from Galen in store. I found you need to keep them thinned out.

Yeah, I thin out much later than most gardeners. That way I get some baby sized carrots out early and the rest that come out are giants. We grow Nantes mostly but the funny thing is other varieties will spring up as well as we've been growing carrots in same region of garden every year and no real issues. A few slugs around and thats it. Just squish em when I find them. They like carrots too. When I grow carrots in containers they don't seem to do as well. We have a lot of tree size rubber pails from Nurseries. They're good for most things and last forever anyway. I just post this garden stuff all the time to get other people into it. One of the best things you can do from dietary, health even exercise pov. Gardening is old fashioned workout. hehe

Next year not gonna bother with Potatoes. As good as they are I find stores are doing a better job with supply chain bringing in real fresh potatoes. Buy those and they don't really cost much at some places. Just doesn't seem worth growing them for the space they take up. We've done container potatoes but the yield isn't as much as I'd want. Got 40lbs.

Our Kale was ridiculous this year. One row and we were feeding the whole block. Like Giant Kale. Still pumping it out now. Froze so much of it but I'm still picking as long as the Kale is alive. Tastes even better this late in year. More of a savory taste to it. Made some Barbecued Italian sausage, then cooled it off, sliced it all, Threw it into a pasta dish with garden Onions, garden Peppers, Kale celery, parsley in a cream/stock sauce and the wife is going to marry me again. I'm the chef around here. I was made to cook with garden fresh produce. I always have hundreds of ideas floating around my head on what to make with what we have. I've heard thats a good chef skill. I did some camp cooking when I was younger as well. Love doing it but decided I'd rather have cooking as a hobby, more fun that way.

Nantes are what I grow too. I plant a few hills of spuds so I can have a few feeds of baby potatoes and dill. Oh my I’m suddenly hungry for baby potatoes. Beyond that they take up too much space and as you say, for the price it’s not worth it.

Anything that has more versatility like green, white, yellow onions, tomatoes, peppers, herbs that can go into a variety of dishes and then some staples like cucumbers, beets, and a steady supply of various leafy greens is the way we roll now.

If you haven't get the shovels out and don't make too many plans. A dump of 15-25cm of snow expected over the next 24hrs. Snowfall warning issued. Roads will be a proper mess this weekend and always worst first major snowfall as some segment always forgets how to drive. Calgary got this a bit earlier and hundreds of accidents. least not hitting on a work day for most.

I am prepared to shovel up to 10 time tomorrow and a couple times tonight lol.

Makes it easy and get some cardio. My snowblower does not arrive until Monday

My snowblower is me. heh, for the exercise. Nobody in our family has ever owned one. I like shoveling. I may not be saying that as much by tomorrow. heh. Mostly I find proper amount of clothes (people overdress if anything and always a vest intead of parka. I wear a vest winter through. even on coldest days. That way you ventilate a bit and sweat doesn't accumulate in underarm areas. Reasonable type of clothing and its all enjoyable. The worst is being dressed too warm while shoveling snow. You heat up fine. heh.

Last comment but one reason I can't stand snow blowers is just that, how they blow snow. Right wind conditions and it blows at you, gets in your toque, clothes etc. I can't understand it as I find it miserable with the snow blowng around. Don't get that as much shoveling except if its powder and throwing it into wind.

I'll shovel around 10am and then noon then last shovel to get the rest. 10x seems over ambitious. heh.

Just came back in from the 3rd round of cleaning the driveway.. Probably another 5 to go. I don't like letting it get too big. It's annoying. Then the god damn tires from the SUV make a pancake on the driveway when I move it off. Then I have to scrape that with a scraper.
