What a brain dead idea it was to rename the wards. Nobody knows what ward they live in now let alone which one is which. Was pretty simple before, lol. All done for the sole purpose of empty virtue signalling.

Just wait until the fall's election night and the poor broadcasters have to constantly refer to them through the evening. Absolute madness. And then we have the re-naming of Oilver and the hundreds of thousands of public dollars going into that, not to mention all of the private businesses that will need to reconsider a name change. And according to the city, this is just the tip of the iceberg for renaming things for the self cleansing of public virtue.

Peely Point. Is that the area that is actually “south” of Detroit? I don’t know geography well for that area but I was led to believe that Detroit has an area that is north of Canadian territory. Odd.

Windsor is actually south of Detroit. The two cities are separated by a river and Windsor is on the south bank.

What kind of fish? I should get out that way sometime. Closest we were is Toronto region.

Erie at one point was almost dead, but it has really come back. They have a thriving commercial walleye (pickerel) fishery, with lots of yellow perch. But the lake also has steelhead, brown and lake trout as well as small mouth bass and even salmon.

Never been there but first association I have with the place. heh I never smoked so I didn't know tobacco is grown there. Proud to say I've never bought a pack of cigarettes or a can of tobacco in my life. Can't stand the stuff.

After Warren Buffet's company Kraft Foods bought it they determined it was not profitable and shut it down in 2014 moving the operation to the US. That was a massive blow to the town and the area around it. French's stepped in and started an operation there saving many jobs. There was a big campaign nationally to switch to French's. It was a big deal out here. My wife bought in and since then we have never bought Heinz again. Frankly, I now prefer French's ketchup which I never thought I'd say.

My buddy told me how hated Heinz was around the area.

Yeah. We'd heard about the changeover which is why I said Ketchup to be generic. We started buying French as well to support and buy Canadian. I don't mind it, seems a more natural taste actually. French's is affordable option too so a good bye. Glad to hear things are back to normal there. I thought it was longer ago that Frenchs bought it.

I remember the Films they used to show back in school when Lake Erie looked more like a garbage dump or toxic waste dump. Nice to see how much has improves since then. Would still be worried about 3 eyed fish.

We went French’s at that time as well. Down here in USA I buy Hunts.

I hear ya. Just took my pooch for a 3km walk, sweating on my back. Although I’m headed back to Sask for Xmas and am looking forward to doing some country skiing on the trails.

1) Have to get used to it again and the body does acclimate to changing temps to some degree.

2)This first week of cold weather still has more humidity in it than it will most of winter. So not as dry a cold seemingly than what we usually get here.

Its ok out there but when the wind hits up it feels a bit damp.

When I moved to Ontario I loved winter. For me it meant hockey and curling!! And in my younger days ice fishing and cross country skiing. The weather never bothered me though I was never a fan of lots of snow. What I really loved was the bright sunshine on a cold day. Right now though I can't wait to leave town. The last 5 days have been quite depressing. Not only has it been cold but there has been very little sun. I am off to Vancouver tomorrow for a conference before heading back to Ontario on Monday. While I will always consider myself an Albertan, for the first time ever I can't see myself living here fulltime.

Alberta is a strange place for retirement though. Its just that so much here is always geared to work. Tends to be a work province and so being retired here seems against the flow. I'm probably too lazy or disinclined to move somewhere else. We love the neighborhood we're in and the house we've worked hard on. I'm not a change person so I suspect I stay here indefinitely.

Alberta is a strange place for retirement though. Its just that so much here is always geared to work. Tends to be a work province and so being retired here seems against the flow. I'm probably too lazy or disinclined to move somewhere else. We love the neighborhood we're in and the house we've worked hard on. I'm not a change person so I suspect I stay here indefinitely.

For me the core issue is healthcare. We are very lucky with what we currently have in Waterloo and as you get older that matters. I am not nearly as confident that we would be in the same place if we came back. They are also building an absolute state of the art hospital about 5 minutes from where we live.

We have though about getting place down south. I formally retire in June and my wife just retired in September so its still an option. We thought about San Diego where we have a very good friend we visit. It's pretty expensive though. Financially, I would make a lot more sense to just rent a nice place for a month or two in the winter or to look for a cheaper community.

Agreed. My approach to healthcare here is to hope to not need it. Because its a mess. Hopefully some of the changes in AHC here will make it better. Been a long time since our Healthcare system was a model for others.

At one time long ago Alberta was ahead of the healthcare curve.

Happy retirement! I love it. Known some people in San Diego as well but pretty pricey place. Most snowbirds seem to choose Arizona for affordability. I doubt I end up moving or getting a property somewhere else but you never know.

If you like the neighborhood and the house you're in and the folks either side of you are okay to be around then there's no real reason to move. You could do much worse than where you are.
