I bet you Ron is somewhere patting himself on the back and thinking "yeah I set the culture, I set the table for this success"
Ron was on GMFB this morning! They were talking about the game last night and they backed out to talk about the NFCE, I was like, "Dude, make him squirm!" but they only asked about what the NYG should do about Jones. Total chicken-out!

No, that was in reference to some posters here who were slandering JD's arm as another reason he would be a bad pick, and at least one reference to "noodle arm" from earlier in the season.

I really don't remember that coming up a lot (maybe at all) in those discussions. I mean, the debate was about him versus Maye, where the comp is simply that Maye was understood to have a bit of a cannon. His rep included the ability to get the fastball into the tight window, where JD's rep was more "Definitely enough arm strength, ridiculous long ball."

In other words, the objective take on Jayden was that he has plenty of arm talent and strength, and certainly more touch than Maye was perceived to have. And having a howitzer doesn't always move the needle. On a list of strongest arms in the league, Richardson and Levis are probably near the very top. In this draft class, Milton and Rattler definitely have stronger arms than JD. Of the guys considered top of class, JJ was seen to have perhaps the weakest arm, and that kid can whip it plenty.

In pure strength, Milton was a class above everyone, and my favorite quote about him from the combine coverage went something like, "If you need Milton to throw it 60 yards, he can throw it 60 yards all day. If you need him to throw it 10 yards, he can throw it 60 yards all day."

I don't recall anyone seriously picking on Jayden's arm. Yes, Maye has more power, but everyone on the planet felt JD's got plenty of arm. That would have been a bonkers take that all of us would have laughed off.

I seem to recall at least one person questioning if he could make all the throws, while suggesting Maye could…

At some point we’ll move past the I told ya so’s and what ifs, and we’ll all be able to just enjoy the guy we have.

I definitely remember that, too, but I think the narrative there was that JD was perceived by a lot of people as being more of a sideline/perimeter thrower who might have difficulty working the tighter windows in the middle of the field in the NFL -- a concern that he did a pretty good job mitigating during his senior year.

It was one of the nitpicks where people could reasonably give Maye a perceived edge because his offenses worked the middle more often and with less talent. But as time wore on and more experts weighed in as the draft became imminent, it got pretty clear pretty fast that while Maye might have a little edge here and there, JD was the far more polished and versatile player. The major concern was his build and NFL survivability.

At some point we’ll move past the I told ya so’s and what ifs, and we’ll all be able to just enjoy the guy we have.

We're there for the most part, I think. The told ya so stuff has been playful and respectful and pretty obviously tongue-in-cheek. And maybe the couple times they really meant it and/or leaned hard into it was mid-game when JD just pulled off the kind of awesome that make naysayers gladly eat crow. And for the most part, I think the right amount of crow has been eaten here. ;)

I'm sure it's a harder road on the Skins boards, but there were only maybe a couple Maye hardliners here that were like, "If they pick Daniels they're f***ing stupid." Everyone else acknowledged JD's many gifts but were just worried about his durability.

And Maye looked pretty sharp during those couple games and early Sunday, so we'd probably be okay either way. Looks like he has the tools, looks ahead of schedule already, and seems to be the right kind of guy. Pats fans have plenty of reason to be excited. I'd hate to be a Colts fan right now, y'know?

Still got 5 more games to go at home down the home stretch. That place better be packed and loud
Just got my tix for that Titans game. First time venturing to that place since the RG3 era.

As far as the trade deadline goes… Denzel Wards concussion history is worrisome. I was about J Horn until he started bitching about the offensive play calling last week. Bad look bro.

I think Mike Williams and Zadarius Smith make some sense.

Or a DJ Reed Mike Williams package deal would be sick.

Uh, yea. That was probably me, lol. Of all my questionable takes during the intense debate before the draft, the “Jayden has very average arm strength” was probably my worst.

It was mostly in comparison to Maye, thinking that his big arm would allow him to do some crazy things like Josh Allen. But, I I think I went overboard when comparing Jayden’s arm.

So, I will eat all the crow, endure all the ridicule, and take all the punches to the face. Whatever you guys want!

But I will take it all with a smile because we have our guy, and Washington football is finally fun again.

Honestly, I'm pretty close to off the trade wagon altogether (yeah, I know -- after being the biggest agitator!)

Not sure any of the guys who might be available are either healthy enough (incl. Tee, who's missed another game since coming back and is still carrying a "Q") or worth the effort or cost -- unless they're being shopped for a fifth or lower, or a couple of lowers.

There are maybe 3 exceptions I can think of:
CB Lattimore (28, but carries a cap hit that's outgrown his production)
CB Newsome II (24, not as established as Ward, but not as broken, one year after this at $13.4M -- but would CLE be dumb enough to move a building block?)
DE Reddick (Now that the Jets have shit the bed, changed the sheets, then eaten eight Chipotles burritos, re-shit the bed, rolled around in the bed-shit and then died in it, they should be doing nothing but stockpiling draft picks in preparation for AR being escorted out of the building by security 3 seconds after the final whistle week 17)

That’s a baaaaad QB to have to start or did the other guy just feast on starting the Steelers D?
The other manager is a woman who is really good and wins our various leagues frequently. She had PIT as team D and Watt as IDP and I was 99% to win going into the 2nd half and playing Pickens, who had 2 TDs neutralized. This is after I'd already lost Diggs, Jordan Mason, and Brian Thomas Jr. to in-game injuries.

The punt return TD and strip sack by Watt closed the gap to a few points. The INT to end the game (which I totally knew was coming) gave her the win on the last non-kneeldown play.

f*** the Gints. But if those refs hadn't called that phantom penalty on the first Pickens TD this wouldn't have been an issue.

Davante has a Taco Bell in his house. I think the Jets can shit the bed some more. I believe in them.

Total class. Quickly becoming one of my favorite Skins ever, and that's saying something cuz I'm old enough to remember that we used to be kind of good at football. ;)

Not sure any of these guys fit what they’re trying to do on defense. Lattimore maybe but how much does he have left is the question.

Alright, I normally think kids today spend way too much time on memes. But this genuinely made me LOL. Stevenson’s pose is just too perfect.

So just leaving this here for my fellow Tolkien nerds.

Richardson benched, Flacco to start. Not shocked one bit.
If teams are going to draft young quarterbacks with huge upside who are raw, they have to be prepared to sit them and not start them from day 1. Richardson is a year and a half younger than Jayden Daniels. He's got a lot of development left.

Teams need to start viewing guys with high upside who are raw as riskier. Taking a guy like that in the second round (or perhaps even late first) is fine but when you take a guy 4th overall you expect him to play right away. Malik Willis was another guy who was raw but with significant upside, and he was taken in the 3rd round.

I said this all along with Maye…..have the balls to give your guy time to develop.

This stigma that a top draftee can’t sit is outdated and archaic football 101.

I disagree that you start taking them later in the draft, you take your guy when you can….you just have to stick to your guns and not cave to outside pressure to rush the guy to start.

Richardson seems kind of....dumb.

I don't know if that's reality or just perception from the field, but some of his decisions are suspect at best.

Taking himself out of the game on 3rd and very very long when he probably just had to hand the ball off, and then later admitting he was just tired, is pretty damn stupid no matter how you slice it. I've never seen that combination of events from an NFL QB in my entire life.

I imagine most teams would probably bench someone for doing that.
