It's what losing organizations tend to do.. or the Rays who are just plain cheap but manage to do ok in trades. Orioles have more than enough to get it done. Can't see the Yanks there.

You think he’s a 4th outfielder. You have no clue. Nothing to “check my eyes about”. He was hitting for power the year before he came to Toronto. He lost his power like every Jay apparently when he got here

Guy is about to turn 28 and might have a million dollar arm but just seems to have a 10 cent brain and mentality and it's hard to imagine him ever figuring it out at this point.

The funny thing is he’s saying he still wants to be a starter. Like f bud you can’t get through one clean inning how are you gonna pitch 5 plus lol
 
If the Jays get offered two top 100 prospects for Bo you take it. You’re not going to get that next year and him being fully healthy cause he would be a pure rental for a contender. With an injury plagued season if you get offered that you gotta take it

I'd be interested in moving Bo for some cheap starting pitching with control. The Jays will need to replace Kikuchi next season and they need some cheap pitching to bridge the Manoah injury for at least the first 2/3 of 2025 or maybe the entire season. Replace Bo with IKF/Jiminez/Clement at SS.

Then use the 250-300 million you save on the Bo contract on an actual bat that can bat 3-4. Putting the Jansen+Bo money towards Soto is the dream scenario but probably a long shot.

Obviously Soto would be fantastic, but I wonder how that would affect their ability to extend Vlad. Like... it would be amazing to have those two bats to anchor the lineup for the next decade, but would Rogers actually do that? I doubt it.

He lost his bat. His OPS is well below 100 now and he just doesn’t get on base or drive in runs. Again his defence is excellent but at this stage he’s not a guy who should be getting 600 plate appearances per season. Having Kiermayer and Varsho in the lineup at the same time creates too many holes to fill.

The outfield changes were made last year. They should have adjusted by now. Besides other teams have no problem hitting at the renovated dome.

“Well below” is more akin to what a Kirk, a Bo, or a KK is putting up. Varsho’s stat line is essentially league average for a CF this year. It sucks because he started off well. Regardless, his defence is the best in baseball. He’s pacing towards a 4 win year (in fact his rWAR already surpassed 3). If he was in CF all season he’d easily hit 4 fwar due to positional value.

There were 6 guys who played CF last year that hit 4+ fWAR. Only 2 (JRod and Luis Robert) that did it as sole CFers.

KK is absolutely redundant. But Varsho is basically our Devo. The problem is management didn’t continue supplementing the offence like Gillick did in 1990.

How much would Vlad's increase be, 10 m per year more? He should be around 30 million per season on a 10-12 year deal. Maybe 32-34 million a year because of inflation.

My quick napkin math has the Jays clearing off about 55 m from Jansen, Kiermaier, Kikuchi, Bichette, and Turner. If they trade Green, that's another 10.5 m off the books. They can also trade Garcia and Richards. That's 70 million coming off. I'm not factoring in new arb increases, but if they are shedding all of that salary and able to supplement them with cheap cost-controlled talent it can work. Trading those guys this offseason for cost-controlled pitching for 2025-26 even if it's bullpen, or a bottom of the rotation starter would help. They have a lot of cheap but adequate position player contracts with Varsho, Kirk, Schneider, Horwitz, Clement, etc. They just need more cost-controlled pitching. I think they can allocate to Vlad and Soto and make it could work. Regardless it's obviously a long shot, I'm not delusional, but they should at least make the pitch like they did for Ohtani if it works dollars wise.

I don't disagree with any of this, it's just... we're talking about Rogers here. I don't see them making anywhere close to that kind of commitment. You can point to their willingness to pay Ohtani $700 million, but I still believe that was a business decision fueled by being able to sell TV rights (among other things) in Japan.
 
Hopefully the Jays can recoup some prospects to help the farm system. I would to try trade Bo in the winter. Next year you can try to gun again and spend money or trade some of these assets and balance out the budget and kind of take a step back and kind of do a re-tool. There’s no reason to be near the luxury tax and be this bad.

And there’s zero chance Rogers is spending 500 million on Bo and Vladdy. Atkins is going to have to pick a direction here.

Personally, I would blow it up, we know Rogers has the money to sign anybody. I would really focus on the farm system. Really get the budget down, regroup as an organization. When we get our own young core again we can open up the purse strings again
