Last year they were blessed with a very healthy starting staff, including Manoah who stunk.Buck stops with him. He built the roster.
Last year the record vs the division was brutal. This loss will hurt a lot. You have to beat up on these teams if we assume that the record inside the division will be more or less a wash.
They are getting owned by the Rockies bats. sad.

The fans waited three years for the rebuild which in baseball is great. The wait for this rebuild was hard and tough, but the fans knew it was time after the previous core ran it’s course.
But a second one when nothing came of this one? Fireable offense, and the years it will take to bring this back up…
So, are you envisioning a smooth transition from this roster to a core that can win as something that’s understood and accepted by the fan base? The fans waited three years for the rebuild which in baseball is great.
The team was on the right path until after the mariners series. I still maintain one of the main problems is the teams hitting philosophy. Mattingly is the biggest problem IMO. Why they brought the same approach back after it didn’t work last year is perplexing.
Basically Atkins didn’t address issues in time, then when he finally did he overcompensated and let go of a lot of the hitting talent on the roster. So, are you envisioning a smooth transition from this roster to a core that can win as something that’s understood and accepted by the fan base?
The Mariners series featured our friend Manoah that caved in under pressure that couldn’t get back to his winning ways, the attitude around the dugout that was not on a professional level and the ineptitude of management to identify in time that team defence mattered a lot. I agree that maybe Mattingly’s approach should be revisited, totally fair point, but I think it highlighted a lot of what was to come.
I’m gloomy to a fault, but this is not working and the minors aren’t so hot either. I’m not feeling it all.
No idea what a new core would look like. The farm system could easily restocked with the numerous trade chips the Jays have. So, are you envisioning a smooth transition from this roster to a core that can win as something that’s understood and accepted by the fan base?

I looked at the numbers when I got home tonight. So far the top three hitters are Turner, Biggio, and IKF. The only other two somewhat regulars above 100 wRC are Davis and Vladdy. The rest of the hitters are below 100. Vladdy is at 109 which is too low for him. The hilarious part is IKF and Turner are the two WAR leaders among positional players. No idea what a new core would look like. The team needed a new approach at the plate and one more batter. Atkins doubled down on the roster instead.
It's true but it requires context. Schneider is very quick to give up on games this season and bring White, Wes Pearson or Espino into the games. I understand that he's missing his best relief pitchers and must not use the remaining ones too often but still those 3 guys s**** a** and it inflates the ERA quite a bit. Again tonight Schneider brought Espino in when the game was still winnable. He either clearly overrate those pitchers or doesn't believe in the ability of his offence to claw back into games. Even with injuries those 3 guys should not pitch imo i can't believe there's not something better in AAA. I mean try the cuban guy and use Francis as a relief pitcher like last year. And while most of us are complaining about the hitting, the pitching hasn't been good either on most nights.
I somewhat agree. Berrios and Kikuchi have been great. Bassitt only good in one start and the rest awful. Relievers are a mix but it’s mostly the ‘junk’ guys giving up the runs. It's true but it requires context. While it is still early, a similar problem continues from last year. Kirk, Varsho, Vladdy, Springer, and Bo are underperforming. Kirk is not as big of a problem once Jansen gets back. However, no matter what the team is, when the top three hitters on the team are underperforming, it's going to be difficult to win.
