Have some faith in the pro scouts.

He also has 4 points in 2 games. People will start freaking out right away but we will need to wait at least 20 games until we get a true read.

Sort out the pairings first.

Playing with a squad of AHL guys in a top pairing role is not a true representation of what he will be asked to do this season.

All I want to see from him is progress during the year, even if he looks like another Yandle or Matheson initially. Lets not forget he's coming from Columbus which isn't really known for being a hotbed of production for prospects. Our system SHOULD help him to settle down with how much our forwards come back to help the D.

This team can survive the regular season with mistakes from him without a problem. But he has to be able to weed them out eventually.

That’s the description of Samo though… Hehe

Like you, I would like this team to add another sneaky good goal-scorer, and most of all another young player !

Lundell has been our youngest player for the last three years, and it is getting boring. We want some new blood.

Watch out for Sourdif’s playmaking and grinding-style, pretty sure he can win that third-line spot too…

But most of all, I want to see where Eetu and Anton are gonna go this year ! Do they take a step offensively or not ? Lundell has always been a pretty good goal-scorer in juniors, can he get better at this level ?

This year will tell us a lot about the next few years IMO.

Anton is my breakout candidate for this year. He had an excellent playoff run with 17 points in 24 games, I'm expecting that to translate to the regular season. That's a 58 point pace, I think he'll hit 50 points this year.

As some of you may remember I've been wanting Boqvist on the Panthers since the COVID season.

I think he's been damaged a bit by a terrible Columbus program after getting traded from Chicago. There's a lot of potential I see in his game but injuries haven't helped development either.

Like mentioned already, he's going to make turnovers, but Paul Maurice has proven time and time again if guys buy into his program and the team's culture, they will grow as players. Boqvist's turnovers are mental mistakes. He's clearly gifted with the puck offensively, it's about the coaching staff translating that into the confidence to handle things in his own end.

Only time will tell. A lot of this is on the player, how he handles the opportunity. A guy like Forsling took it and ran with it and now he's one of the best in the game at what he does.

i would give him more time than that. they will likely be working with him on the side in video sessions during the season to remediate him. may take a little bit of time. maurice was on board with bringing him in so i imagine they have a plan.

another thing - the team will also start to learn where he struggles and because we have so many good defensive forwards, they'll be able to anticipate where he'll need help.

haven't really seen much of him but i believe what folks have said. i'm hoping we can turn him around. doesn't have to be a superb defender with his skill set.
Your profile picture just made me spit my fkn coffee out holy shit 🤣🤣

Can’t wait we upgrade at the deadline and we pay a first-round pick for Vladimir Tarasenko…

Steep price, but the good news is that highly-coveted top-3 puck-moving right-handed defensemen only cost a third-round pick around the NHL so we should be fine.

What are you talking about you boob? I never said pay a 1st for Tarasenko lol.

totally agree.

that said, i wonder how matheson or yandle would've looked within the defensive structure and discipline we have now. there's definitely a time and place for aggressive play but this group has been so reliable exiting the zone, even if that means punting it out.

It would've helped Matheson maybe, but Yandle was just lazy and soft. I don't think either of them would cut it in our system though. Our success last season was due in large part to having 6 solid D that usually always made the right decision.

When is the first round of camp cuts/reassignments?

It's weird they haven't had any yet, that we know of. It's hard to take much from that game, but as of right now I think either Dalpe will center the 4th line, or it will just be Greer -Boqvist-Gadjovich. Giles is interesting if he continues to develop, if he can really play center. Big, physical, and can skate well enough. A couple years down the road. Vilmanis I think will be a player. He just continues to show that he could be useful to an NHL lineup at some point.

I’m sure they’ll start boqvist with Mikkola on the 2nd pairing to replace montour’s offensive production. Schmidt will be perfect with Kulikov. Even if boqvist can’t handle the minutes due to his decision making, they can swap him and Schmidt. However, he could very likely need close to the whole season under this coaching staff to really hit his stride. Even Kulikov early on last year would commit a boatload of penalties it seemed and then he became a rock for that bottom pairing as the season progressed. Or the season before with the Staal brothers, they were pretty terrible for most of the season and honestly both played very admirably towards the end. It may take him some time.

Even if not, Schmidt I think can handle the minutes, he likes playing RD anyways, and I honestly really like balinskis and think he’d be more than capable of being a full timer with Kulikov so I’m not terribly worried either way. The 2yr track record this coaching staff has handling defensemen is fantastic so I’m optimistic with boqvist as long as he can stay healthy. I’m not expecting him to be a defensive stalwart, but I think he’ll be a contributing member of the team and not a detriment, but we’ll see.

If Samo misses training camp and preseason then Im completely ok with him playing a 2nd full year in the AHL. Imo that can only help his development. He played two fantastic season with Michigan, had a very solid first year of pro hockey scoring over 20g and nearly a ppg. A second full year to build upon is completely fine. Especially being a successful team now, we don’t have to rush prospects anymore. I don’t think that’d be rushing him if he did make it this year, but we have the luxury of letting him marinate a little more if needed. If cousins could play in our top9 for most of the season then Jesper can. 4th line could always be Nosek at center with gadjo and Greer wreaking havoc on the wings. Entwistle is a possibility for the bottom pairing, as well as Luff if he earns a contract

someone is going to pay this man 7x7 this offseason. we all need to enjoy this final ride with him

I really don't want to lose him but looks like it will be between him and Swaggy and I don't think you can lose mr. Clutch. The part that worries me is Toronto will have that money to throw at him with Tavares coming off the books. Treliving also has a fetish for tough guys and Bennett is a Toronto kid on top. Would suck very much to see him on a rival for the next seven years.

Maybe, it'll depend also on what happens with Ekblad and maybe Bob.

If Verhaeghe and Bennett get a combined $7M increase, we might be able to offset that with a $4M increase in cap, Ekblad being paid $2-3M less, $1.2M Yandle buyout (🤮) coming off the books, and I think $0.5M owed to Okposo for winning the Cup. Possible, but it'll be tight.

He's got his cup and has signed fairly cheap deals to this point. I imagine, like Montour, he will go where the money takes him. Secure the generational wealth. No reason not to

Bennett isn't going to stay when Lundell is making the big bucks. Verhaeghe is probably going to sign some 9milx7 deal and that'll leave something like 13mil in cap space which isn't a whole lot because Zito needs to sign another top6 winger and a top4 dman.

I love Sam Bennett, but I am not convinced his contract offers will be quite what you guys think his contract offers will be. His production through his career has not been impressive, he takes penalties, he is frequently injured, and he's not considered a 1C.

Then again, teams may start chasing the Panthers in terms of roster construction and decide that the best way to do that is to start with some Panthers.

We'll see. He's one of my all time favorite Panthers, I certainly hope Zito can find a way to keep him.

Zito has to be thinking about what Benny would be doing for the Panthers in the future and not solely what he has accomplished thus far. I love what he has done for the Panthers especially at his price point but Zito might consider bringing in another reclamation project like him in the next off-season because Bennett hasn't really put up big point totals to warrant a ~2x pay increase.

e: The Dolts isn't same powerhouse that they used to be because they've lost Killorn, Gourde, Goodrow and Coleman along with some skilled players and this same phenomenon is bound to happen gradually with the Panthers too at some point.
