I wonder if the coaching staff is pushing the D to be more aggressive, seems like the weak side D is pinching up to provide a back side outlet quite often

Brindley to Mateychuk, beautiful setup.

I'm liking Harris so far

Damn, Fimis just knocked down JMFJ

Unless Fimis was terrible in the the drills or locker room, I don't see how he doesn't get a contract.

BJH looks pretty comfortable with the puck on his stick as well.

Brindley looks real good, gained the zone and was patient to let things get setup. Things kinda broke down after a good pass but Hall was able to convert a garbage goal.

Vogelhuber on Jiricek "he's a high draft pick, but young dmen we say they need 250-300 games before they know who they are as a pro player, he's got 150 games? Let's give him another 150 games. I told him to look at Victor Hedman, it wasn't until his 300th game that he started to define himself"

Nash still overseeing prospects this season, haven't discussed someone else taking over in that role in the future.

Thankful for Jarmo and JD but Don is a chance for him to learn a completely new way of doing things.

He and Jody and blue jackets through and through but thankful for Don to give him this opportunity

Wants to win that cup, fans in town deserve a championship team, wasn't interested in coaching but team construction.

Canada GM experience helped him really build relationships with GMs across the league having to talk to them about players.

Having Don will be helpful since he's been with so many organizations and has seen things that worked and didn't work.

Nash specifically calls out Femis and Pinelli

First time I've really noticed Jiricek, playing aggressively in the offensive zone carrying the puck behind the net

Christiansen! Carrys the puck in and snipes it past Gardner from the top of the left circle.

Idk if O. Sillinger makes the team out of camp, but I could see him being a 4th line call up

Knazko almost sniped top corner on the pinch

LDBB with some good hands and almost snuck one in, good save by Gardner

I'm trying not to make any evaluations on the kids from this camp. After all, they're playing against one of the worst teams in the NHL.

TFW hurried up a pass from behind the net and missed a wide open player in front on the net

No one's making serious evaluations, but you want to see guys like Brindley, Harris, Mateychuk, Christiansen and LDBB looking a tier above the rest.. Guys making the plays they are supposed to make, meanwhile a guy like TFW still looks a little uncomfortable and I hoped to see that from Jiricek as well but not so much

I'm not saying anything about anybody else's evaluations. Only trying not to get too excited about what I see now. By making my restraint public, there's a better chance it will stick. ;)

I don't understand why our best shooter is on the left wall as a lefty. Wouldn't we get the most out of his shot on the right side? With a righty on the left side to feed him?
Especially if Werenski is LH and Johnson is a LH playmaker.
Also hope RHD will be in the secon PP Unit if Marchenko is on the left wall.

my biggest potential issue with Chinakhov on the left side is it kinda takes the Monahan option away from Johnson

He still has a year of junior left. He's not ready to turn pro. Keep in mind he's also gone undrafted. He had a strong short stretch but I'm sure they'll keep an eye on him. He's also small and we have plenty of those guys.

I remember another player who had a strong short stretch last season that I was all for giving a QO but we chose to let him walk.

Brindley and Mateychuk look great. That's what I was hoping to see. They look like NHLers to me.

I hope we assign Jiricek to the AHL and not try to force him into a role he isn't ready for.
I think if Mateychuk makes it they'll keep him down, at least until we get some injuries. But even then a guy like Christiansen looked pretty good to me out there. A few of those guys are ready for heavy minutes in Cleveland though.

Christiansen has looked consistently good to me for a while. He often looked like the best player in Cleveland. I think this could be the time to get him in the NHL lineup and see what he can do. The only other times he had NHL looks were in gutted lineups. If not now, he's probably gone on waivers or just doesn't have a chance to make the team in other years.

Evason seemed confident the Jiricek, the No. 6 overall pick in 2022, will be ready to not just claim a spot in the Blue Jackets’ lineup, but to hold down a top-four job next to Provorov. There’s a lot to like about Jiricek’s game, but his skating — especially when asked to change directions unpredictably — can look awkward.Jiricek had major issues with Blue Jackets coaches and management last season. The new regime may handle things differently, but Jiricek will need to justify a top-four spot with his play. He believes he’s ready.

Prepare to be disappointed.

I am at the point with this club's handling of young players that I'm always prepared to be disappointed.

Evason has already been pressed into talking up Jiricek's readiness, before he's even played an exhibition match. And he didn't look good today in scrimmage. And I'm obviously not happy that Sillinger looks to be getting the center job over the "LW" Voronkov - again this isn't something that Evason is deciding based on how they've played, it's just the priors of the organization heavily dictating what he starts with.

I'm still hopeful for Evason really taking over the team once he figures things out. He has high expectations for his players. Though if he's pushed to just be a development coach and not go all out to win, then I think that might become somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I'd like to see him run with the players who are currently the best players, and if guys aren't ready, there's the AHL for that.

Christiansen has never gotten his due. He's an NHLer.
This is why I wasn’t a big fan of picking up JJ. I get the veteran voice and the good vibes he brings, but having Christiansen as the extra guy made a lot of sense to me.

I suppose we could keep 8 D, we have before, but I think Christiansen is off to Cleveland.
