Why Logan Cooley Won't Play at World Juniors

Maybe shouldn't read too much on articles or comments that are not coming from a player himself but I think there is some truth in that. NT should always be a top priority. If you are in the NHL great, but if you feel like now you are too great to be there it tells something about your character. Considering how committed our players are towards NT after they reach NHL I can say with confidence that we have a lot of these guys. Point I want to make is that there is something wrong culture wise in USA Hockey and NTDP when they produce these characters compared to the guys who would be thankful for their time and opportunity and who always want to pay back when there is a chance. NTDP is a pretty pointless in a big picture if it produces only benefit for couple junior tournaments.

It's a pretty click-baity article. Cooley is in the NHL, so he's not gonna play in a junior tournament. It's standard operating procedure. I hope he'll consider playing in the (senior) world championships if Arizona is eliminated at that point.

TBH, I didn't read the article. I just thought the U.S. posters might want to see it.

I think Norway's speed and physical game surprised the USA early. How much scouting is done of WJC opponents, especially of a newly promoted team?

It's easy to say "never underestimate your opponent", but it happens regularly in sports. Hopefully the lesson was learned today, and we won't see any more of that.

I'm not saying this was a good game or result, but I think people have to relax with the criticisms of the team and players.

We won 4-1. The game wasn't really in doubt. We had like double the shots of the other team. All of the criticism were relative. Norway wouldn't have had a player make our team. We outclassed Norway.

It should've been more than it was. We should've scored about 8 goals. 4 is disappointing, and Norway probably had too many spots. But this was the first World Junior game for a lot of these players. There are players coming back from injury. They were rotating spots in the lineup in the exhibitions.

They need to play better. At the same time, I'm not ready to get mad based on a 4-1 win. I think anyone who was certain this team was going to win Gold probably was too optimistic to begin with, but I think today could've went a lot worse than it did.

anyone who follows Boston colleage would know that Hutson basically has the green light from the coches to do whatever he wants on the ice and that to me is not how you develop a player
Hutson does have a green light but he plays for Boston University. And I doubt Jay Pandolfo would have liked Hutsons play yesterday.

Spoken like someone who didn't watch the game. Had Augustine not played excellent the result would have very much been in doubt.

Hutson had a bad day but it won’t last. I expect that he’ll be much better tomorrow.
Yeah I've never seen him play like that. I think it's explained pretty easily though. He just flat out didn't respect his opponent, which wouldn't be as big of a deal if he wasn't a veteran leader on this team. I understand that it can be hard respect an objectively inferior opponent, but that's no excuse. Happened to me in college - we swept our first weekend series against a team (6-1 and 8-0). Then later in the season we were actually trailing them 3-2 after 2 periods of a meaningful game. Thankfully were able to pull it together and won 5-3.

Seemed like Hutson set the tone early on, and first time guys like Smith and Perreault seemed quick to follow his lead.

Hopefully they learn from it and move on.

Hopefully Minny. Seattle fine but I don't want to see them anywhere near Vegas.

Yeah, I would like to see it go to a Minnesota where NCAA hockey is popular.

If USA Hockey goes with Vegas they will just be looking to cash in on the Canadian fans who will book a trip.

Vegas with a bunch of underage kids seems like a disaster waiting to happen. I’m sure they’re thinking about the crowds but they gotta remember this is a tournament for teenagers first and foremost.

And while Minnesota initially seems like a slam dunk on paper, as the state borders Canada, it’s actually not near any of the big population areas in Canada that would make it easily accessible for Canadians. Thunder Bay would be a 3.5 hour drive from Duluth and Winnipeg a 6.5 hour drive and add another two hours to Minneapolis. And the lakes mean it’s a flight from Toronto.

If they are worried about Canadian attendance, I could definitely see Seattle.

I think once someone plays a game professionally, they shouldn't be allowed to play in Juniors. Then again, I think olympics should only be for amateurs.

Seattle would be my pick, brand new world class building, a great tradition of junior hockey in the state of Washington, and close to the Canadian border

As long as they don't overprice the tickets again like they did in Buffalo. They over relied on Canadian fans making the trip down. The rest of the games had sparse attendance

quinn hughes played significantly worse in the WJC for the usa than he did at pretty much every higher level than the WJC (worlds, nhl, michigan). great players thinkin they can just play pond hockey at a lower level and dominate.

We get it. You hate the US team because Stramel didn’t make it. You can stop this crusade and beating the dead horse.
