WJC: 2024 Team USA Roster Talk

Underrated point, it's single elimination hockey. If you follow college hockey you know how weird that can shake out. The "best team" doesn't always win.
Correct, all Hockey fans know that on any given day a Hot Goaltender can take down the best team.
That's why a 7 game series is usually more likely to reveal the true champion. Unless of course that Goaltender starts believing in himself.

Really looking forward to seeing this team, and obviously McGroarty in particular as I've only seen him play a couple times.

This should be a really strong gold medal contending team.

If the point is about how to translate junior enthusiasm to the world championship buy-in, I think more best on best Olympic and World Cup stuff is the best bet. Get the guys amped about representing the red white and blue and that can trickle down to lesser competition and give guys that are on the A- or B+ team a better chance to show what they can do to earn an Olympic spot (which is only gonna be more competitive compared to 2010 and 2014 as the player pool has grown).

Looking at the lineup, Finley seems to be the odd man out in the lineup. He's the fill-in for McGroarty today on the top line. He'll probably end up the 13th forward when McGroarty is cleared to play.

The defensive pairings still look jumbled beyond the first pair, but it looks like Pohlkamp and Fortescue will be joining Casey and Buium on the first three pairs. Rinzel and Minnetian look like the odd men out.

Augustine is starting today. He was probably always going to get the first chance to play, and I suspect he will get the first chance when the games start for real, but we'll likely see Fowler at some point, and teams usually change goalies on the fly in these short-tournaments, if things aren't going well.

Couple PP goals already and nice win against hosts who is more familiar with big ice and one of the biggest favourites going to the tournament.

Anybody know lines from today?
Think it was

Moore-Gauthier-Snuggy
Howard-Nazar-Brindley
BC Freshys
Finley-Nelson-Hayes

Hutson-Chesley
Forts-Casey
Buium-Pohlkamp
Rinzel-Minetian

That’s totally from memory so could have missed some. Rutger didn’t play so he goes where Moore was, although I thought Moore was decent today at LW.

Let's just hope he doesn't take the 16 year college degree path like Umberger & others have lol...

like leaves early, plays 15 years in the show, and then goes back to finish a degree?

what kinda loser would wanna be a national leaguer living out their dream making sheets at the expense of a completely meaningless piece of paper?
