WJC: 2024 Team USA Roster Talk

Everyone knows USA gets too fancy at times with their cuts, but the player pool is overall in a strong place, they aren’t bringing scrubs along these days. Everyone has something.

Doubling down on calling players selected “average” is just disrespectful.

If you don't or anyone don't like it, not my issue.

Average players are average. I don't run PR for the team. I can call tell the truth.

The thing is that there is no reason for Hagens to be away from U18s if his role would be extra forward.

Are you kidding?

That top 9 they rolled out today doesn't have a spare center. Who plays center in the top 9 if one of them becomes unavailable?

Also, Nazar, Howard, Leonard, and Brindley are not better players than Hagens right now. They cut him because college coaches always need to give deference to college hockey players. And they always need a few controversial cuts. It's the way things go. We should stop using college coaches.

I would also have Brindley and Leonard on the fourth line, not the top 9. Instead, we have a fourth line with 160 pound Finley who has never seen the middle of the ice and Hayes, who is average. Two players who don't belong on our fourth line.

This coach is making a very bad early impression.
I suppose it was inevitable.

Anti-CHL NTDP bias.

So our third line is going to have two 5'10 players and a 5'8 player, two of which are very soft.

Recipe to be upset by Sweden.

McGroarty should not be playing with Gauthier and Snuggerud. We don't need our three biggest, most rugged top 9 forwards all playing together.

Hagens with Gauthier and Snuggerud, McGroarty with Howard and Nazar, and Brindley on the fourth line.

If Brindley doesn't play fourth line, I think our lines are poorly balanced.
What’s this “we” you keep saying? You’ve done nothing but bitch and moan about this team because your boy Stramel didn’t make the cut. It doesn’t take a genius to see your obsession with wanting this team to fail.

The main thing I don’t like about cutting Hagens is that I don’t think Gauthier is an effective center at this level. I’d rather have a backup plan if he needs to be moved to wing.

Stahhhhppppppp

Whine whine whine ... what else is new.

The cuts have been made and I'm happy all 4 Hawks prospects made the team. Yeah baby!
Moore, Nazar, Rinzel and who? Gajan? Impressive though

Edit - I just saw it was Hayes, does gajan make the Slovak team?

A little surprised they took Minnetian, but I have no complaints with this team. I like the projected combos personally. They're either proven already or make sense on paper.

I disagree. He's much better at center. He was marginalized last year on the wing.

Yep, Gavin Hayes is the 4th guy on the US team. I haven't seen the final roster for Slovakia but Gajan and Misiak were still on the team last I saw.

I think the fact that Hagens was invited to camp and strongly considered for the team as an underager shows how much USA Hockey likes him as a player. It just wasn't his time this year, mainly due to the fact I don't think the brass felt he was a shoo-in for a top-six role. I don't see his absence being a significant factor in this team's fortunes anyway. Absolutely loaded up front with some nice role players interspersed.

Good to have Sweden and Canada scheduled for pre-tournament games. Should provide some insight into a couple of primary rivals and a chance to assess lines and pairings against quality competition.

Not to slight the Czechs and Slovaks, but we really lucked out being in that B Group.
