If Savoie is out I would put Firkus in the top six right away. The team needs his quickness and puck skill.

Minten and the issues with his usage are obvious at this point. I'm not as down on Dumais as the general public seems to be, he's generated turnovers and probably should have a couple extra assists.

Exactly. I really question how closely folks are watching if they think there is a "Minten and Dumais problem". Dumais, rough first two periods yesterday aside, has been generating all tournament. Second only to Celebrini in chance creation. He's been excellent in breaking up opponents possessions. He just needs to shoot more, he has an elite shot.

They should go back to Rehkopf - Celebrini - Dumais.

Oh, 100%. The roster should still compete no matter what, every year, for gold. It’s actually probably a good thing cause the tournament doesn’t have great parity as is and lots of fans get to see some different players.

I think it’s worth mentioning when the big picture questions come along about other countries catching up or passing Canada and what not. This year the team really, really feels it.
Absolutely. It’s better for the tournament overall. Gives other players a chance.
Canada is still #1 in top end talent most years and have incredible depth.
You can only put so many players on the ice at one time though.

Not crazy. If I was a better, I would take that as a flier
"Flier"? Help a non better know what that means.

I got 6-1 on Czechia beating the US and I'm like WTF are these guys talking about, there is no way the US is 6 times more likely to win that game. Then we got within an eyelash of an upset, but alas it wasn't to be and I lost the bet.

I'll definitely throw some money down on Slovakia for this. It's not even that the US are playing poorly, but the odds makers have definitely been sleeping on Slovakia and Czechia.
Exactly!

I'm not a better but I'm tempted (I know I won't) to throw $100 on Slovakia - with a $550 payoff. The whole thing seems crazy to me.
I've just started my betting career. I mostly throw down small amounts, so nothing that I'll really miss at this point. I also like to bet against my own teams so if they do lose, at least I'll get something out of it. It kind of insulates me from the pain of a loss. I picked up a small sum from that Sweden game. Still would've preffered a win, however.

Statsy's punishment for betting against Canada...

He who hesitates...

I just looked and the odds are down to +320 for Slovakia on Draft King.

The Swiss fly around the ice at lightning speed and are as soft as movie theater popcorn butter. Expect no upset...

Idk if I'm as worried about other countries catching up thanks to the 2023 draft class, and 2024 looks pretty good for Canada, Celebrini being far ahead of any other talent, and the US's only likely top 10 pick is Eiserman. Also Canada is icing an entirely new roster outside of previous 13F Beck, who only played 3 games last year. I feel like the NTDP and built in chemistry makes some US prospects seem better then they are some times. I mean Leonard, Perrault, and Smith, all play at BC and it makes me wonder if that'll lead to them not becoming as versatile as they could be if they had to experiment with different line mates.
Thank Jesus someone agrees with me

Couldn’t agree more
I locked in Slovaki +2.5 tomorrow at +125. I believe it’s around -115 now which is still tremendous value

Why were the numbers so outrageous at first? Again, Slovakia was +550 last night. Don't the odd makers watch the games?

Do not like the way TC supported the puck against Sweden. Don't get me wrong Sweden and the Swedish goalie played well, but we made it too easy on em. So many hopeful cross ice or stretch passes, teams that are playing any semblance of defensive structure are going to pick those off no problem.

Hope to see better 5 man cohesiveness from the Canadian squad tomorrow. Play close to each other, win the puck decisively, and break out and attack as a unit.

Rehkopf and Wood should get more ice time that Minten. It's that simple. Danielson needs to ball out the rest of this tournament if they want gold.
Why ? I haven't seen anybody but celebrini do much up front
Some guys won't even engage when they don't score ,at least Cowan and minten have been hit

With Sweden losing to Finland in the shoot out, the seeding after the semis will look like this (assuming we beat Germany in regulation)...

USA
Sweden
Canada
Slovakia

(* Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, *)

The US's odds of winning Gold just improved.
As for Canada, if we were going to win, we always needed to beat Sweden and the U.S. - the order just changed.
