So looks like they tried to bring lots of “gritty” two way forwards. Why? It’s bigger ice and your team should be better than everyone else, why have 2 lines simply try not to get scored on?
They can score and play defence really well. This isn’t as strong of a team as some others however our goaltending may be one of the best if not the best at the tournament here. That’s probably why they want some good defence out there to help counter teams like the states that are pretty top heavy

Speaks more to my preferred style of play. I don’t believe in “countering” another team. Bring skill for the big ice.

A lot of questionable decisions most notably Allard and some other depth guys over Firkus and Warren/Furlong/Bonk over a Nelson or Buchinger. Just feels like the staff was trying to be too cute and seem like they are the smartest people in the room.

Bring home a Gold and nobody cares who was cut/snubbed.

Go Canada

If they play USA in the semis or finals it’s a no brainer you want good forecheckers to pick on Lane Hutson who is still really easy to push off pucks.

The one in like 2019 or whatever is probably the worst.

Not good then and didn’t age well
That team still had a +18 goal differential and lost in OT in the QF on a broken stick iirc. I seem to remember the leading scorer in the tournament was benched in OT for reasons.

Maybe this team does the same with the right matchups (Russia is not in this tournament and a weaker team replaces them) but hard not to feel like they are undermanned in this one.

This current roster reminds me of some of those early 2000s teams where they picked for roles instead of just picking the best and most talented players. Like why is HC taking a sub-PPG, twice undrafted forward? There's no way that is one of Canada's best 12 available forwards. Cut the better Moose Jaw forward for what I assume is a role decision.

If you're going to go with a more well-rounded forward group, that's one thing, but where is the skill on the backend to support that group? I'm not seeing it and I'm maybe the biggest Mateychuk fan. Noah Warren has FIVE points this season. In what year is that ever good enough for Team Canada?

And I'm far from a goalie expert but possibly relying on an undrafted goalie also? Idk...

If Poitras and Benson aren't going to be released, and they very likely aren't going to be, then I think Jagger Firkus is probably next man to get recalled. They need the offense.

The vaunted Team USA is loaded with small one-way forwards like Howard and Nazar, is Firkus a drop off from that?

With goaltending it is important to go with the hot hand. Not their resume.
Is the hot hand even hot ~a month from now when the medal round starts?

Track record is usually a better indicator (placing a lot of weight on 2 scrimmages is dangerous), but even so, there's a big difference between performing in the Q and performing against what Sweden and the US are throwing out there. With a better roster in front of him, sure, I could buy it, but the margin for error is slim it appears.

Questionable decisions for sure. Will be fun to see if we even place taking all these depth guys. Would be interesting to get some explanation for these decisions. Why have scrimmages when players who show well get snubbed.

Oh well, will be fun to watch regardless.

Beck is going to center Canada 3rd line, not the 4th.

Rehkopf-Geekie-Savoie
Minten-Celebrini-Dumais
Yager-Beck-Wood
Cowan-Danielson-Allard

Allard making this team is wild. Seen him play in Sudbury and there is nothing the sticks out to his game other than speed which typically leads him no where
