I wonder if we will start hearing more about any potential negotiations with Vladdy only after the WS ends? We don't know if any discussions even started between the Jays and Vladdy's reps.

So who is everyone cheering for in the World Series? I can't cheer for the Yanks, and I hate the Dodgers for that obsecen Ohtani deal, but I'm cheering for Teoscar Hernandez.

He was discarded by the Jays, who have missed his power dearly. I hope he hits some big homers and becomes the World Series MVP.

David Popkins is the new hitting coach. I don't know enough about him to care too much one way or the other. He was the hitting coach for Minnesota the last three years, and they were a solid offensive team despite a ridiculous number of injuries.

I would have liked to see more responsibility to Hague and Edwin, but hopefully they're both still around next year. We needed to see change, and at least we're getting that.

Biggest claim to fame for Popkins is Royce Lewis said he was ignoring his advice when he came back and went on that heater after his ACL injury in 2023.

Stat wise though he had the twins looking okay-ish

  • 2024 - 9th - 107 wRC+
  • 2023 - 7th - 108 wRC+
  • 2022 - 10th - 106 wRC+
Top 10 offenses with a small army of guys on IR seems like a decent feather in the cap.

So maybe what this team needs is just to ignore advice and do their own thing or do the opposite. Following the advice of Guillermo, and Donny has not worked so good. Half kidding.

I know its early, but, Samsonov 2-0-1, 1.93 GAA , 9.43 SV%
Why the turnaround? Different system?,
better defense? Strange the improvement from the previous year. Probably he forgot how to swim. 🤔

I was 15 years old and thought baseball fandom couldn't get any better.

Fast forward I'm 46 and havent seen another Jays WS. 😭😭😭

Parity is huge as ever in MLB right now. Lots of teams will have big droughts like this. Hell, even for the Yankees their 15 years between WS appearances was unheard of for them. How many teams have significant droughts without winning a playoff game? Several. Us included.

I mean Goro is a hilarious character, being able to slip into any "funny" role so it'll be fun to see him get time to shine in the spotlight.

I meant to have this up earlier tonight but it turned out that making/eating/cleaning up dinner took longer than anticipated.

In honor of the world series starting yesterday and because I haven't done one of these in a while, I'm embarking on a slightly more ambitious multi-day version of hte vintage baseball radio posts that I did before. This time to present something timely:

A Yankees-Dodgers World Series. From 1956
This was, of course, the Brooklyn Dodgers against the Yankees and I believe it was the 7th of their now 12 clashes in the World Series. Why did I pick this series? Well, besides just having the two current WS teams and a heck of a lot of notable players, there's also some history to be had in this series. But we'll get to that a little later on.

Unfortunately it does not appear that game 2 audio is available anywhere, but I do have links to the rest of the series with every or almost every game in full.

Game 1 took place at Ebbetts Field in Brooklyn on Wednesday, October 3rd, 1956 and featured the following lineups:

Yankess
1) Hank Bauer (RF)
2) Enos Slaughter (LF)*
3) Mickey Mantle (CF)*
4) Yogi Berra (C)*
5) Bill Skowron (1B)
6) Gil McDougald (SS)
7) Billy Martin (2B)
8) Andy Carey (3B)
9) Whitey Ford (SP)*

Dodgers
1) Jim Gilliam (2B)
2) Pee Wee Reese (SS)*
3) Duke Snider (CF)*
4) Jackie Robinson (3B) *
5) Gil Hodges (1B)*
6) Carl Furillo (RF)
7) Roy Campanella (C)*
8) Sandy Amoros (LF)
9) Sal Maglie (SP)

*Denotes an eventual Baseball Hall of Fame member. Sandy Koufax was also on the Brooklyn roster but did not pitch in the series, and Don Drysdale will appear in a later game in the series

If you want to be spoiled, the box score for this game can be found here

@Da Cool Rula, @MS, @HockeyThoughts , @the valiant effort, @td_ice, @PanniniClaus, @canucksfan

As always, if you want to be notified of future radio posts, just leave a like for this one.

I'll post game 3 one day this weekend. Either tomorrow (Saturday) or Sunday. And at an earlier hour.
