But elite free agents sign there, that’s the difference.

If you don’t want to rebuild that’s fine. But you have to be able to win in free agency and get big names to come here. The Jays are great at getting B+/A- UFA’s to come here but can never get that star guy to commit here.

But how are the Rays doing it? They can't even afford big time free agents. Rays have been a consistent playoff team for a long time. There are no excuses. If the Rays can compete in this division year in and year out, then there are no excuses for anybody. Why can't the Jays be that kind of organization?

Toronto is an absolute shit hole now. Getting worse by the day. Bums, drugs, tents, garbage. It’s disgusting. Saw a scum bag take a shit on the sidewalk right on younge street broad day light. That’s becoming normal.

Toronto is nothing but a disgusting shit hole

Jays have had fairly good luck with injuries but this season has been awful. Bad luck or are they doing something wrong?

Pinango sounds like the sort of return you'd get for Kiermayer. A young, controllable, relief pitcher whom still has a lot of stuff should have been worth more. Either the Jays have always had an interest in this guy or they are sticking hard to the strategy I outlined earlier: they want higher level prospects with a real shot of cracking the MLB roster soon (which they got with the Garcia trade). Or the Cubs got a car salesman negotiating their trades.

Pretty much the entire west coast of the US is far, far worse.

100%, and it isn’t just 2 top 50 guys, it’s 2 top 25 guys.

He isn’t the face of the franchise if he doesn’t re-sign and if he is, you haven’t won anything with him on his pre-arb and arb salaries, what makes you think you will win with him making close $30M a year, every year. That said, it has nothing to do with wanting to get rid of Vladdy, rather if he isn’t re-signed by now then you have to think the price is too much. I wouldn’t go over $200M, Blair says he is asking for close to $300M. That’s nuts.

Give me the 2 top prospects and $25-30M in payroll space vs Vladdy at that price for 10+ years and the no surplus value you are going to get out of him unless he is a perennial 4+ WAR guy.

It’s a no brainer for me. And if he truly wan to back, then sign him in free agency.
Though Those two Top 25 Guys have only been slightly above average with limited power in AA

A lot of big cities are like this in North America. Hell, there is a tent city in Prince George BC!

I can’t be the only one disappointed with all these value trades right?

Especially the more I hear about the players they got back.

So ... nothing
Pearson is 27 and has been worth -0,2 fwar in His career. What do you expect?

The fun part is the retool will be an abject failure next year and they'll have no value left on Gausman Bassitt and Berrios because the declining stuff will be very apparent next year at the trade deadline.

This is Marc Bergevin level management by Shatkins
Question is whether a rebuild Managed by Atkins would be better. Hopefully they Clean House this fall

A retool/trying to compete in 2025 would make sense if the farm system was much better.

Failure to compete in 2025 likely means a complete rebuild which sucks in baseball.

Nate Pearson is just another what if, guy had stuff early but he became Alek Manoah minus the fat belly.

Can’t say we ain’t losing shit but Pearson was just meh.

Not to mention hyper-intense high-maintenance guys like Bassitt aren’t on every GM’s radar
