I hate bringing in closers in a tie game in the bottom of the 9th or extra innings. Of course before that unable to get shutdown innings in a close game from your relievers has been a problem.

Good news is that even if they lose out, they still won't surpasss the 1899 Cleveland Spiders as the worst major league team ever (20-134, .130 vs 31-131, .191).

That is some good positive thinking, maybe they can't catch the Spiders for this year, but it gives them something to shoot for for next year

The White Sox are now 3 games behind the 1962 Mets at the same point.

They have 6 games left with the Angels and 3 with the A's. The rest of the schedule is filled with teams that are, at the bare minimum, competitive baseball teams. They will have to win the vast majority of those 9 games against the 2 lousy California teams to avoid going down as the worst team in modern MLB history.
