Patriots/NFL 2024 Regular Season: Part II - If the NFL season ended today, the Patriots would have the No. 1 pick in the draft

There is teams knowing that if they have the first they know they aren’t drafting a QB so trading teams won’t ask for much in return.
It doesn’t matter that the Pats don’t plan to draft a QB. Their concern is another team who needs a QB will trade up with the Pats and snag their guy. I feel like I should write this in crayon

Those names were just examples. I'm not advocating that the Krafts should hire any of them specifically. But if that's the route they decide to go in, I think they'd need to bring in someone without a lot of ties to the organization who has a track record of success.

Also, I'm not trying to pick on you because I've seen it in several places, but I very much hope that at some point, Patriots fans would stop referring to the proudly Jewish owner of the Patriots as "Krafty". I get it that it's a play on his last name, but it's got some anti-semitic overtones that make me very uncomfortable.

I'm sorry, never heard or even considered that term as anti-Semitic and a quick look a various anti-defamation websites glossaries of anti-Semitic terms doesn't kick it up either.

But whatever, not that funny anyway, so wont use. it.

Huge difference between 1st and 4th. You’re right, either way Pats still get “their guy” be it a WR or lineman. At 4 they get their player. At 1, they trade back to 3 or 4, still get their player, and also get a 1st in 2026 and a mix of 2nds/ 3rds. What does this team have to gain playing Maye (whom we all gel our collective breaths last week thinking he was dinged with a concussion) in a meaningless game vs Buffalo’s 2nd and 3rd stringers?

Let's assume for a second that other teams will pay less to move up than ever before. Even in that scenario, something > nothing, even if that something was only a 2nd or 3rd rd pick (it wouldn't be). It's not like the Giants are just going to say "Hey, the QBs in this draft suck, so why don't we just swap picks for free?" Teams are going to have a QB preference, and as long as more than one team needs a QB, there will be incentive for a team to move up.

You'd have to say that the value the players get from winning that game is greater than the value of the extra pick(s). Does winning that game give Maye's offseason development a boost? Perhaps, but I'd guess probably not. It's not like going 4-13 instead of 3-14 is going to put the season in a more positive light. It's a disaster, burn the tapes year either way.

The sit Maye narrative makes no sense. He needs game reps and 1st or 4th pick this year doesn't matter to them. They aren't taking a QB and can get who their targeting at any top 3 spot.
It should matter because when you have the 1st pick you can trade it. No guarantee what you get back but Maye has shown enough in year one. Playing this game against Buffalo isn't absolutely necessary for his development.

Yeah and no QB in this draft sniffs Young's level. That matters too
Everyone laughed at Denver for drafting Bo Nix where they did and he may be rookie of the year. JJ McCarthy was pegged as a 2nd round pick. Michael Penix also pegged as a 2nd round pick but went 8th overall. Teams desperate for a QB will reach. It’s absolutely ridiculous to suggest the Pats won’t get solid offers if they land the 1st.

THEY ALWAYS REACH!!! The two QBs will go 1 and 2. More than two teams will want them.

And teams always overpay to have their choice, especially if the QB class is not deep. Teams always feel the pressure to get a QB. Some front office people are trying to save their jobs and a new QB buys them time. Some owners push to get a new QB to increase fan interest. Happens all the time.....

The fire Mayo stuff is 10% of the fire Belichick after his 5-13 start

More viscious- I felt bad for Bill back 25 years ago

Mayo 10-7 playoff next season

Holy overreaction

People listening to White who went rouge and got taken out is embarrassing

They showed it on nbc Boston - now he’s the guy wanting change lol

Like a kid being punished for shop lifting by parents and blaming them.

Veabel yes but otherwise Mayo

I appreciate the optimism, but they need to show the ability to actually pay for and attract free agents, and Mayo has to show a big improvement in situational and all around coaching/ handling his team before I can buy in to it. Not sure either happens but I sure hope so.

Mayo will be fine - he didn’t realize you gotta say nothing, give nothing to the media.

That will be easy - as my buddies on my home text group say his mistakes were all acting like he’s on a text chain or message board

You don’t go anywhere without mistakes - his are easily correctable

I owned one jersey it’s Vrabel’s but I am clearly on Mayo if not him

I read they weren’t winning a game before season now they win 3 or 4 and fire him

Since when was this season supposed to be a walk thru the park on a Sunday in June

The guy being quoted the most about change and treated like Reggie White is Keon White - no relationship

Keon was told to set the edge like Anfranee Jennings does so well - to force play inside

But Keon didn’t want to - he wants sacks - sacks get you paid.

Keon rent rouge went for the QB as the T gave him the inside - the back went wide where he should have been for a huge gain

Keon gets taken out and sits

They show play next night on NBC Boston Ted Johnson how White F’d up

Now he’s the spokesperson for change and because he will speak to writers they are ready to have his child. Keon White is a bitch - sure he puts in I gotta improve - but that’s text book - his real gripe is he wants to be Jason Taylor not A Jennings

Hilarious

It’s the fire, trade, dislike everyone mentality of the social media generation which was I’m sure was always there but Clark from Clearwater can now find an outlet to wand Elias Lindholm traded everyday

No doubt he has not been set up for success, but has not been great situationally either. Regardless, none of this matters if they will not spend and attract talent. If they do It changes the dynamic....if not we are in a vicious cycle right? As far as Keion White, the coach needs to get buy in. If he doesn't then trade sit him or trade him. That goes for anyone. Coaches gotta coach.....

He sat White - and White sensed the social media backlash on Mayo and went on the offensive

Belichick gave them a shit sandwich

I haven’t seen Mayo caught with women (Kraft), blow (Hobson), rumors of pain pill addiction (Francona)

He said we gotta burn cash forgetting team sucks and Attleboro isn’t Tempe or South Beach and has snow & taxes

Mayo interview on WEEI are different now - he’s guarded

He should pick 3 or 4 media people he can trust Curran/Perry, Price, Gurigean, Reese, Breer - and the rest can have oatmeal. These 5 will control message

The others like volin & Bedard are there to make mountains out of mole hills

Dan it's not the media's fault Mayo said a bunch of stupid shit, including blaming others for the team's failures when he's the head coach, and then had to walk it back.

There is no chance KC doesn't lay down to let the Broncos in they aren't going to risk facing Cincy at Burrowhead.

I can't really give Mayo the benefit of the doubt this isn't an average/good debate we're talking is he bad or awful. Noone succeeds following legends its not going to be him. Vrabel is safe if you get Tet and a starting OT in the draft for Maye and cheapass Kraft spends to the cap or close that is a 10-11 win team and our division is imploding.

Or keep Mayo and jockey with the Jets for #1 overall again?

If not for the OT blunder in Tennessee, the Patriots would still suck but be picking somewhere between 5 and 10. Yes, it was a blunder (I was actually at that game) but in the long run it worked out better for the organization. I’m not congratulating Mayo for that but having the first pick gives this organization so many more options providing they don’t screw it up. The team needs assets, trading that pick, despite the weakness in the upcoming draft, gets them way more value than picking at, let’s say, 6th overall.

This 100%. The lack of blue chip QBs in this draft hurts the value if the #1 spot if you are looking to move it.
It might hurt the value but it's still better to have the #1 pick as a chip than to not have it. There is no real benefit to winning this game against Buffalo's backups. There has been no culture built this year. Maye has taken a beating at times. Site him, lose the game, gain the #1 as a chip and then we can all debate what they can get for it.
