For all the praise Bailey gets, Bello has been disappointing. This team is destined for 81-81. Irrelevant but perhaps not last place.

After 60 games the Red Sox are 30-30 and 3.5 games out of a wild card slot.

The Red Sox business plan is obvious - an average of 31-32,000 a game in April and May and when the tourists arrive in the summer the sellouts will happen.

As of this morning, they are averaging 31,394 after 29 home games,

In European soccer, there are HUGE financial bonuses for ownership if a team performs well. That is not the case with MLB.

I was certain attendance would be dismal in April and May - I was very wrong.

FSG is very happy with the status quo.

I'm surprised you thought that. Fenway and the city of Boston itself is always an attraction to outsiders.

The fact Kennedy said the team has underperformed shows how out of touch they are.

This team has seriously overperformed given the injuries. They have waiver wire pickups contributing in most areas.

I like the makeup of the core, I think they are much more dynamic than the Bloom band of mercenaries. But most of it is in spite of what ownership has given Breslow to deal with.

So Sam, STFU and give Breslow/Bailey the resources to fix this team.

Going through some WAR numbers this morning. The Red Sox are:

2nd in MLB for WAR from their pitching staff.
2nd in MLB for WAR from their outfielders.
6th in MLB for WAR from their catchers.

The WAR numbers are average-to-poor at 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, and DH.

In four of those five positions, they've had projected starters who have missed most of the season due to injury. I'm not sure it's a question of resources as much as it's a question of they thought they'd have Casas, Grissom, Story, and Yoshida in the lineup most of the time, and they've struggled to replace them.

Tucupita Marcano ( Padres ) facing lifetime ban for betting on MLB games involving his own team. :amazed:

from espn.com:

San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano is facing a potential lifetime ban for betting on baseball after Major League Baseball received information that he wagered on games involving the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was with the team last season, sources confirmed to ESPN on Monday.

Marcano, 24, has yet to be formally penalized, but MLB Rule 21 explicitly states that a player who bets on games involving his own team is subject to a lifetime ban. Marcano tore an ACL last year and was on the injured list when he allegedly placed the bets, which were flagged by a sportsbook and reported to the league, according to sources.

The potential ban of Marcano comes in the wake of the NBA handing down a lifetime penalty to Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter for disclosing confidential information to bettors, limiting his participation in at least one game and betting on NBA games while playing in the G League.

Four other minor league players are facing potential discipline for gambling as well, sources told ESPN. Even if a player in the minor leagues is on a team's 40-man roster, he would face a one-year suspension for gambling on major league games, according to Rule 21.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the looming discipline for all five players.

The Sox record, which is much better than I expected, is even more reason to be furious about what ownership did this past off-season. If they'd actually tried to make the team better it might be competing for the division.
What realistic move should they have made that would have dramatically improved this team?
