Per Mike Reiss, the Patriots sent four staffers to watch Oregon QB Bo Nix's Pro Day. I like him... but don't love him. Better arm and a better athlete than most think. Is he better than someone like Mac Jones? Sure. Could you win some games with him? Probably. But I think he's got a ceiling, and I think he gets rattled by pressure.

They also sent their WR coach to South Carolina to watch Xavier Legette's Pro Day. Legette would be a consideration in the 2nd round. I've seen comparisons to DK Metcalf, and I get it... but he's not quite as big, and he's not quite as fast. You'd also have to be comfortable with the fact that he only had one year of significant production in college.

:(

Now that’s that shit I don’t like!
If the plan is grab Harrison Jr over Maye and then grab Nix or another qb that is expected to be there in round two, I’m all in. It all comes down to whether or not Jayden Daniels is there at 3. If he is I think they take him in a heartbeat. If not, I think a plan b like this could be in effect. I’m absolutely not sold on Maye as the answer. Way too inconsistent year to year in college to feel great about him at the 3 spot. Same goes for JJM as well.

Mac is gone - I wish Zappe & Jones well in life and professionally. I don’t dislike either in fact I really like Zappe from his home draft stuff

He’s got his strengths I love the way he moves up in pocket, doesn’t quit, can run, and believes in himself

If Brady or Burrow or Cousins etc was QB1 I’d be comfortable with BZ as the backup

But for this team with Maye or Daniels coming in we can’t have him here

I actually like Zappe!!!!

Don't think hes given the pats a reason drop him. He'll get a chance this year to compete to start

Due diligence. It was their QB coach, an area scout, and a couple others. If they were really interested, I think you would have seen Mayo and Wolf in attendance.
Given that a quarterback coach is the guy who scouted Brady and advocated taking him, I’m fine with this.

Not a Patriots fan (I do live in the area though) and I agree with this. I'd way, way rather have Nix (sit him for a year behind Brissett, it's not like this year they're going to make the PO's anyway) and MH than Maye alone, especially when you consider how leaky the Pats' OL is and the lack of weapons with which to insulate and develop a rookie QB.

If you feel strongly about a QB, go up and get him if you must, but don't overdraft a QB just because of need unless you really believe in him and you're in the right situation for his development. I am a much bigger fan of Daniels than I am of Maye. If Daniels is there at 3 I take him if I'm the Pats but I ain't taking any QB #3 if Daniels isn't there.

I'm assuming you're not referring to Mac Jones here, right?

Then you sign, or trade for, a veteran QB. The Patriots are not competing this year, not even close. They are very obviously the 4th best team in their division.

They KNOW that Mac and Zappe were not the answer, now they are going to try to find the answer another way. Will anyone from this draft be the answer? No one knows. But we DO know that neither Zappe nor Jones are the answer because they simply don't have it...and a "maybe" is better than a "no."

They wont spend big at QB imo. Brisset is a splurge for them

Oh I agree but they don't need to. They're just signing a placeholder on a rebuilding team and Brissett is a good option IMO. He's made of glass though so a contingency plan won't hurt.

This is what delusion and denial looks like folks.

Clearly drafting a QB and have Brissett as starter for a few weeks, or as an actual QB2 and mentor to the rookie.

Well same right back at u. Bailey won 2 games down the stretch in hostile environments and near perfect 1st half vs kc. Hell get a shot

He means Zappe, actually.

I’m with you in that I like Daniels a lot more than Maye, McCarthy, Penix, etc. I feel like those guys are being talked about because of the position they play rather than their actual skills. Any QB other than Williams or Daniels would be a reach at 3 based on need vs where they should actually go.

Hell baby
I like Penix more than Nix myself, that’s mostly why I said what I said. I’ll be uninspired if they draft Nix

My rankings:

1) Caleb
2) Daniels
3) Maye
4) McCarthy
5) Penix
6) Rattler
7)) Nix
8) Bazooka Joe
9) Pratt
10) Jordan Travis

Yeah that's where Im at with #3 too. I dont consider Williams because no way he falls to 3, but if by some magic luck he does you gotta take him. Real world its Daniels or MHJ at 3, I don't trust Maye at all. He struggled mightily against a below average ACC this year, he screams Trubisky 2.0

I am coming around to the idea of MHJ at 3 and try for Penix/Nix at 34

Drafting a non-QB at pick #3 is franchise malpractice of the highest magnitude.

Draft a QB, or trade the damn pick to someone else who wants to draft a QB.
No, actually the opposite is true. Reaching for a qb that high because of need would be just about the dumbest thing a team could do.

My issue with Bo Nix is his age and his upside. He's basically the same age as Trevor Lawrence and he was average playing against SEC defenses. He's had 5 years of college football, and padded his stats in the Pac 12, where teams play defense as an afterthought. If I'm gonna grab a QB outside of the top 3, I'd look at McCarthy first.
