Figured I’d check in to see how the rumors thread is doing since I last posted in it. Instead found it closed and a trade deadline thread open with like 800 posts lol.

I’m not going to read everything but today is a good day. I assume that’s the feeling around here.

The Avs have certainly poked around on him and know the basis of what it would take for a deal. Along with that, their cap space fits perfectly with a Guentzel at 50% (3.0) + Needy (1.5) would take to fit. They have pieces that Dubas is known to like (24 1st and Gulyayev).

With all of that, I'd be shocked if there were not at least discussions.
I'm going to say this - and it's not going to be a popular opinion but IF the Avs trade Goolash + a 1st for Guentzel, I would not be surprised to see them sign him long-term in the $8.5M - 9M range and trade Rantanen when he still has 1 year left on his contract rather than pony-up the $11-$12M or more on a long-term contract that he'd likely want.

I wish Montreal hadn't re-signed Montembault, I think he would've been a sneaky good pick up and one for us to resign

I completely agree on future upgrading because why not? IMO today is already enough +assumed full health minus Landeskog for me to consider this team the slight favorite now to win the Cup. And if they do eventually get Landy back too then it might not even be close.
But again…don’t stop now. This front office knows how to load up and go all-in. They’ve done an incredible job these past few seasons and the quality of the core of this roster is dynasty-worthy….it just takes a FO/GM capable of making the right decisions and not being cheap. You can’t afford to settle for less.

Here’s my question though I keep seeing 3C mentioned as the next position to be upgraded but I don’t understand why…hasn’t Colton been a perfect fit and a solid 3C?

This would be a very interesting outcome.

It is interesting to speculate on what is next.

The cap is still there to go big with someone like Guentzel, but are the assets?

Maybe just a depth C, or D?

I think there’s plenty of great options to add thankfully. And we’re in a spot where we don’t desperately need any position outside a G really. A depth C would go a long way, as would a big splash like Guentz. Either way I love our chance at another cup this year :nod:

Wonder why they needed to clear cap space? Even without RJ, they only would have added $312,500. Seems like enough room left to add a goalie if they want?

Out:
Byram - $3.85M
MacDermid - $987,500
Johansen - $4M
Total = 8.8375M

In:
Mittelsdadt - $2.5M
Walker - $2.65M
Total = $5.15M

We're getting Edmundson.
Honestly wouldn’t mind him to bump JMFJ down.

My guess is they do one more move as a one stop shop and grab a depth C and a G like Dowd/Lindgren or something like that.

4C and 2G I can see. Not sure they needed cap space for that though on prorated deals for a 4C and backup who are probably cheap anyway.

A 6LD would surprise me though. That's a lot of additions and I think they like how JJ has played.

If they do all of that, this would be the most all in moves in I'm not sure how long.

JJ is borderline NHLer at this point and we'll have injuries.

Took all of next week off to go to the game next Wednesday and have way too much to do this week so obviously I have spent my day watching trades and on HFAvs instead of accomplishing anything
