Florida honestly should be able to keep winning. This squad has zero excuses to not win a cup

If FLA wins the Cup with superior goaltending, defensive buy-in and a big, physical squad that's tough to play against, other teams are going to start seeing that as a formula to win in the playoffs and will copy that.

If you look at the starting lineup, you'll see they aren't as big as you think. Most of their starters are 200lbs or below.

What they do have is an ALL OUT COMMITMENT TO GAP CONTROL; that's their true superpower. If they played the Trotz forecheck and defense combo they would not be as successful, they are built to be aggressive, not wait for a mistake and pack it in. Trotz would have heart attacks on the bench with how Florida plays.

They play the boards in the offensive zone to keep the puck moving and they are great at reading space, keeping their feet moving, and making quick passes.

They do not lay back on the penalty kill. You turn your back with the puck, and they surge towards you. They are the equivalent of a basketball team that goes full-court pressure all game, like the old Wooden teams or Richardson's Arkansas was.

The Panthers also have better skaters (great asset for controlling the gaps) and their guys who play with an edge are highly skilled. Two things the Islanders have been lacking.

Trotz wouldn't have a heart attack watching the Panthers play this way. His Islanders didn't have the tools to play this way and HE KNEW IT.

They have a goaltender that has his head on straight…and they made a big trade to remove a perimeter player for a better overall player that changed the franchise.

Puh-leez! You're obviously Wayne Gretzky or Stefen Rosner and first posted your thoughts here in hopes of impressing all of us with your acumen. I'm not falling for that trick. :sarcasm:
Actually, I'm most like John Holmes if he were still living . . .

Barzal is better than Huberdeau. I know you're trying to make a narrative but lets not. Also Barzal isnt even close to the softie that Huberdeau is.

I think that Sorokin's contract is now a bargain compared to the mega deal Shesterkin is about to get thanks to how well Bob has been these playoffs. Easily the Conn Smythe winner

Also the real difference was adding in guys like Rodrigues, Mikkola, OEL, and Lorentz. All middle 6 changes. Also the Bennett trade. God I love that trade more and more.

Been reading a lot online and I can't believe the morons who are defending Draisaitl

Leaving your feet and injuring someone with an elbow to the head should be a mandatory suspension. You only leave your feet in that situation because you intend to injure. There's no other reason.

This is the issue-

$5000 the maximum fine allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

That’s a fvcking joke. Max fine should be like $500k or a % of salary. Or no max, punishment fit the crime.

$5000 to them is like $50 to us. BFD.

If it were to happen that the NHL got serious about player safety, and labor grievances & the CBA reduced the effectiveness of more serious enforcement, one could come to that view. Until then, it's a very weak excuse, which only shows how little motivation the league has to correct the situation.

Those last minute goals hurt worse, though that was at 1:02 remaining. Technically, just hurts.

Huge breakdown for Florida defensively to allow that Foegele breakaway, maybe the slowest one in NHL history.

Corey Perry has played 211 playoff games as a ‘13 draft.

Jeff skinner as ‘10 draft has zero playoff games and Skinner has made $70M+.

The other Skinner shits the bed behind the net and now Florida is back ahead. What a lackadaisical play from Skinner, unbelievable.

Edmonton players are doing a lot of watching instead of moving their feet.

And Sam Bennett roofs one after an awful defensive display from Edmonton. This one is likely over.
