Pretty crazy situation playing out in the Canadian Jr A scene. The BCHL left Hockey Canada this season, becoming a solo/renegade league not confined by the HC governing rules.

Yesterday they announced that five Alberta clubs (AJHL) would be also leaving HC to join the BCHL next season. This apparently was news to the AJHL and they have suspended those five clubs indefinitely for the moment, including postponing/cancelling their scheduled games for this weekend.

It's relevant to this thread because one of those AJHL clubs happens to be the Brooks Bandits, perennial powerhouse who have legit NHL prospects on their roster. (Logan Sawyer is the big one worth mentioning for this upcoming draft Logan Sawyer at eliteprospects.com 6'2 F with considerable offensive upside.)

Also included among the five were the Okotoks Oilers, who had previously won the bid to host the National Championship (Centennial Cup) next season. It's a crushing blow for the AJHL, as all five clubs were among their strongest and most sound but also made up the bulk of their centrally located teams geographically speaking. They are left with a much weaker league that is largely fragmented between eastern and northern Alberta based clubs. They may have to consider a merger with the neighboring Saskatchewan league to the East, but that will create even further transportation costs.

For now, it's a shit situation all around where the current best interests of some legitimate pro prospects, no longer seem to be at the forefront for the moment.

First version of our 11th annual HF mock draft is underway. Minnesota won the lottery and selected Celebrini. Sharks went with Lindstrom at #2 and Chicago took Levshunov #3. At #4 it came down to a decision between Dickinson or Silayev for me. Could see going back and forth on that one until June but the upside of the big Russian won out at this point.

Lindstrom to Sharks makes sense. Chicago needs everything but I was hoping they would grab one of the F and leave all the D for us to choose from.

Silayev is a great pick and can easily see it happen if he isnt taken before us. I would take Dickinson but any of Silayev/Levshunov/Dickinson is a win IMO.

MHL is really a hit and miss league...Kings drafted Shafigulin back in 2018 after he had 36 points (20 goals) in 22 games or 1.64ppg. He'll never play an NHL game.

Yurov hurts though.
Didn’t the kings trade Faber and the puck used to draft Yurov for Fiala?

That looks really good for Minny

i think yurov was their own pick, Ohgren was the kings pick(they took Ohgren before yurov).

Regardless wild did good on trade getting a premier shutdown dmen in faber…. Idk that Öhgren is going to be much. Wild have done solid in the draft

McKenzie's mid-year rankings are coming out now. From a poster on the main board:
1. Celebrini
2. Silayev
3. Levshunov
4. Eiserman
5. Lindstrom
Silayev going to SJ will be a nightmare if they drop to #2 after lottery, dude is gonna be a wrecking ball and worry he'll injure quite a few with clean hits. He's no gentle giant like Power/Myers/Hamilton.

I think SJ would take Lindstrom at #2. More of a sure thing and they need size up front desperately. But these rankings will change between now and June...maybe a lot.

4. Eiserman
5. Lindstrom
6. Demidov
7, Dickinson

9. Parekh
10. Catton

Not a bad list, I think I’d swap

Eiserman and Dickinson
Move catton up to 8 drop parekh off and put in biuim

The more I watch Buium the more impressed I am. Kind of reminds me of Fox, he has that kind of IQ. better skater or atleast quicker feet too

Yikes Eiserman is dropping a lot...

"U.S. National Development Team Program goal-scoring whiz Cole Eiserman, No. 2 on TSN’s Pre-Season Draft Rankings, has fallen to No. 4. But slipping two spots in the overall rankings doesn’t fully illustrate, relatively speaking, the precipitous decline the American forward has experienced in the eyes of some scouts.

In September, one scout ranked Eiserman ahead of Celebrini at No. 1; five others had him at No. 2 and four more at No. 3. In the mid-season survey, conducted during the week of Jan. 15, Eiserman received only two second-place votes; three third-place votes; two seventh-place votes and one each for Nos. 5, 6 and 9. He’s still a top prospect but trending in the wrong direction, though there’s still plenty of time to reverse it."

So much variance after Celebrini. Here are a couple of other mocks

If the scenario happens where the Ducks drop 2 spots from #3 and end up at #5 overall and all of Lev/Dicky/Lindstrom are gone do you go Silayev, Demidov or Helenius ? Perhaps trade down for Yakemechuk and and gain a late 1st to use on Hemming. Not interested in smallish Dmen in Buium and Parekh as they already got Zellweger and they just traded a injury prone Drysdale.
