he's gonna play at about 220 lbs, and should be force.

playing with Barzal might be a great place to be, since they are similar players (in expectation, not style). if we play a man-to-man, it may be better for players that are naturally challenged in the D zone. they don't have to worry about switching coverage, just staying between their guy, and the net.

as long as he can keep up to the pace, i trust that he will become more rounded. today's kids know how much is at stake, and have incredible tools to help them develop.

i like it. a power forward in the top 6 is never a bad thing to have.

That's his knock and why we got him where he is. He's not a complete player. He's pure offense. He's Phil Kessel, and that is totallllllly fine.
He's not a bad skater, but if he were as good and athlete as phil kessell he would have been drafted top 7.

(I am happy with the pick, but being realistic.)

I could have been reading about Oliver Wahlstrom

Aatu Raty was a potential #1 who fell. They don't always work out.
I think raty will work out just fine as a very sound middle 6 contributor. He didn't turn out to grow as an athlete as expected, but he's still skilled, and very intelligent, and I think Vancouver saw hime as a big part of that trade package.

I haven't seen anyone specifically mention that Eiserman in the right circle on the PP would be very nice. Hope he pans out. Also, he turns 18 two months from today. As others have mentioned, he missed being eligible for next year's draft by a week or two. And he's scored over a goal a game in the USHL for the past 2 seasons. Glad we didn't overthink it.

Yesterday showed:

Lots of disparity among teams in evaluating players

Maybe not a lot of top talent, but PLENTY of likely NHL contributors, as there is definitely depth

***

As far as today is concerned, if we get either Kleber or Mustard with 54, and if by some miracle Poirier at 61, I will personally cook Lou a great pasta dish and a case of his favorite red.

Whatever happens with roster construction from there will be a bonus. We've been begging for re-stocking the system and we might well take a big step forward on that today.

@Chapin Landvogt - need your take on Eiserman and today.

I kinda like the NHL draft format. It's more genuine than that of the NFL although I really do understand why they don't wanna fly tens of people (and probably wives and kids) out to various cities year after year. Much more sustainable doing like the NFL.
It would have been great with Sam Consentino and EJ doing the commentary and not Fweeks, Bucci and what's Meaghan whoever ( nice job compiling metrics?? for whatever that was worth). ESPN is so awful. I didn't have a a TSN feed and felt dumb ( almost dumb enough to part of the ESPN broadcast), when I realized I could have listened to NHL Radio on Sirius and muted the idiot box.

Eiserman's skating is being unfairly criticized, as is the rest of his game. There's a lot of overexposure here with Cole, because he was thought of as a possible 1st overall pick for this draft a few years ago. His skating is miles better than Bellows and Wahlstrom, and so is his on-ice intelligence. His defense needs work, but so does the vast majority of kids in this draft, including the defensemen. That said, his play away from the puck is actually underrated, especially in the offensive zone. Unlike Bellows and Wahlstrom again, he knows how to find open ice, anticipate plays, and get in position to score. He's also very good along the boards and can make plays with elite offensive players to create scoring chances.

The other thing that's overlooked is the amount of progress Cole made in the 2nd half on his defensive game. His work ethic is there so I'm not worried about him improving that part of his game. He has the IQ and desire already, which the aforementioned two did not.

Was the sound quality different from normal arena concerts?
It looks more like an opera house design.

Can't say I noticed anything bad about the sound. It sounded fine to me. Also possible that I was so enamored by the visuals that I wasn't fully focused on other things.

One note regarding Wally he was actually coming on really strong playing really good when he got that injury against Pittsburgh and then needed hip surgery and hasn’t been the same since then.

Don’t know how to feel about this pick. I read a lot about his lack of effort and a PP specialist. Is he a Caufield, Debrincat, Bellows, or Wahlstrom? Hope this one works out we desperately need a star goal scorer.

Go read some more
I didn't see anyone mainstream calling him a PP specialist

That was really horrendous coverage. Aside from style, the content was empty and/or ridiculous. Bucci seemed like he did zero homework in advance - he would just throw out stupid comments and bad jokes. Emily and Meghan were fighting for air time and I was hoping neither would win. Meghan's "comparables" were absurd - some guy in the bottom half of the 1st round is like Malkin?

And Leah? Oy. What's the word I'm looking for, other than annoying? Effusive maybe? Let me check. "Effusive": expressing feelings of gratitude, pleasure, or approval in an unrestrained or heartfelt manner. Yeah, annoyingly effusive. That's it.

Remember in the past before each pick they'd all be talking and then right before the selection McKenzie would throw out a name, and most of the time he was right? These ESPN people are know-nothings by comparison.

C'mon, stay on message here. Wahlstrom stinks. :sarcasm:

He really was never playing that well. We just got enamored because he scored a few goals and you could see with that shot he's got 30-40 goal potential.

However he really just has no hockey sense. When he's not scoring he's not just useless, but a liability.

No way we can use injury as an excuse for the player he is. He was healthy this year and management/coaches treated him like an AHL extra only givng him 32 games...Despite our desperate need for more scoring.

I'd say that tells you all you need to know.
