He is talking about Trevor Connelly. During the U18 finals (USA vs Canada), Team USA was leading 3-2 with 10 minutes to go in the 3rd period. Connelly took a 5-minute major penalty and was booted out of the game. Canada scored 3 goals during that PP. That won Canada the gold medal.
crazy

to be fair with Pierre he did say hed draft Brady instead of KK but all moot after Carey Price meltdown :cheer:
so did many of us

One thing that surprised me is how Sennecke isn’t at all considered at 5. I find his overall package (skills + size) to be the most unique of the draft. Sure, there are question marks on some things like all prospects but his absolute ceiling may be the highest in the draft if he puts it all together. I’d think they would be bet on Adam Nicholas being able to get him there. Oh well, I’ll get over it I guess.
The bolded part is the problem for a guy you're drafting at 5OA. Cannot afford to screw this up. Iginla is a much safer pick at 5, and will likely be a very good top 6 forward also even if his "in a perfect world" ceiling is a bit lower than Sennecke's. We don't inhabit a perfect world.

Do not listen to the heretics!

Priests of other prospects will whisper "russian factor", "complicated geopolitical situation" and "performed well in a weaker league" into your ears, but do not let it enter your heart!

Keep the faith in the one and only Demigod! Praise be to all who keep the faith!

Why is there a Russian factor with Demidov, but not with Silayev?

It's the CSKA factor.

Silayev is with torpedo, signed for a bit more term but expected to come over when it ends and Larionov is a good contact, people are comfortable with him.

They're more worried that CSKA either pressures Demidov into a longer term deal, especially with his brothers there, and with no ability to loan him out they could kill another year of his development by putting him back in the MHL with no recourse.

Because Silayev’s organization has shown a willingness to play and develop him. His coach is Igor Larionov who seems to appreciate young players. Silayev has a contract for two more years and he needs the time to develop.

Demidov has been unwilling to sign a new contract with SKA. They have kept him down in a league way too easy for him to be petty. They might do the same thing next season which would be a wasted year.

I hope if we pick him that with Bobrov's contacts in Russia and the fact Montreal has some reverence in Russia, that they might treat him a bit differently.

That's my hopium, at least.

Man if we got Demidov at 5, what a dream it would be.

You just never know with this state-owned team and what they might try to prove. I hope it’s a non-factor. It hasn’t been until this moment.

Thank you!

Can Demidov buy out the last year of his contract?

Another year in the MHL would indeed be a total waste of time but it may be worth Demidov here in his D+2!

Isnt CSKA also the organisation for which Bobrov worked in the past and his father still work there?

Hockey prospect's most recent list is just out.
I know their preamble says the list is begotten from their own viewings:

“Our rankings lists are created after we combine scouting viewings from multiple viewings of prospects by our scouts. Our scouts are located across Canada, USA and Europe.”

However, seeing Lindstrom up high like that, you get the sense more and more that he’ll never make it to the 5th slot.

A majority of prognosticators are pencilling in Demidov as Chicago's choice in the 2 slot. Sure Demidov is highly skilled player but he is hardly risk free nor is he the perfect compliment to the Hawks' roster of smallish speedy forwards.

To my mind, Cayden Lindstrom is a way better fit. He's a tantalizing combination of size, speed, skill and snarl. I have no problem imagining him on left wing as Bedard's designated sniper or centering a powerful second line much the way the Oilers have employed Draisaitl over his career. A 500 goal career is not out of the question. Of all prospects not named Celebrini, Lindstrom may make the most sense for the Blackhawks.

Pretty much all you hear about is either Demidov or Levshunov but don't be surprised if draft day is full of surprises.
This draft in particular could be all over the place. I'm thinking we could have any number of trades.
Teams who want one of those highly touted Dmen may panic if they think their guy could go.
It's natural to think other teams are coveting your pick when you are down in the pecking order.

This is not an ideal draft for teams looking to add a forward as their BPA. It’s a D-heavy draft in the top 12, unless the Habs have Sennecke or Iginla as their BPA at pick 5. So difficult to get a clear read on the top 4 picks, unlike last year.

"Oh hi Mr Hughes, heck what a coincidence that Cole Eiserman is in the same restaurant as the Habs management. Cole Eiserman loves steak. Do you mind if Cole Eiserman sits down at your table so Cole Eiserman can order a meal with y'all?"

- Habs combine meal with Cole Eiserman (probably)
Attempting to read anything into the whole out to dinner thing is dare I say...
"Out to Lunch". :sarcasm:
