Columbus has a ton of defensemen, it was part of the reason why Jiricek voiced his displeasure of not getting much of a chance. They also love their Russians there. The only chance would be them wanting to add some more size/physicality with Johnson/Gaudreau/Brindley as part of the organization.
It would make sense but at the sametime they need size upfront they already have a lot of skills upfront, maybe Lindstrom?

I think it’s mostly wishful thinking to say that they will pass on Demidov. Gaudreau is old and declining, Johnson hasn’t really stuck in the NHL consistently, and Brindley is not in the NHL yet. Building around Demidov/Fantilli/Jiricek is very enticing.

If we can find a way to add Brandsegg Nygard to our hopeful top 5 pick it would be absolutely incredible. Can't see MBN falling out of the lottery though.
Wont be avalaible for our Winnipeg pick KH would have to trade to climb a couple of positions using that pick like Winipeg 1st + something for 15thish maybe he could be avalaible. Also do you realy want to hear Houle spend 3 days explaining how to say his name?

Man if Zayne Parekh is available it will be tough to pass on him

Dunno i think the Byram trade kind of prove it's not easy to get an elite forward for a dman. I would not personaly consider Mittlestatd elite and i would consider Byram a very very very very good young dman. Yeah there's injury consern for Byram but still don't think we can get more with our young dman. I mean if the best we can do with Guhle or Rainbacher in a trade is MIttlestatd then i would draft a forward personally.

Right now he looks more like a 30-35 goal guy because there's nothing else to support the shot and NHL defenders will choke up on him. He needs to show more creativity, handling skills, drive, motor and playmaking.
All those flaws and he’s still a goal per game in the NCAA.

I don’t doubt you could be right. But I don’t think his ceiling is 35 goals.

I think there is a slight chance Demidov is available at our pick. I feel RD will be in high demand for Columbus, San Jose, Senators also Chicago might also go for any defender. It just depends if they would draft players like Parekh or Yakemchuk above all the forwards.

Eiserman is a joker but I feel he will drop at the draft. Only possible team interested IMO would be San Jose with their Boston Area connections.
Don t see CBJ going after RD because of jiricek. I think they go with a forward. Assuming Celibrini is in CHI, SJS ANA both go D in my opinion. That means 5 of Demidov Catton Lindstrom Iginla Helenius Eisermann. Choose your posion

I think this is my set and done top 6. 99% Sure it doesn't move much from now on.

Celebrini
Demidov
Levshunov
Iginla
Buium
Catton

Up next: Lindstrom, Parekh, Eiserman, Dickinson.
The U18's always shake up everyone's list due to recency bias.

If Catton or Lindstrom go there and have a strong enough showing then I could see some people putting them over Demidov.

Agreed that MBN will not be available with the WPG pick but I will be shocked if Hughes keeps that pick anyways. I expect him to package that pick with a young dman for a winger with size, skill and upside.

Dmen are worth more than wingers all day.....Mitlestadt is a center and had out performed Byram for two consecutive seasons. Byram was decent in Colorado but by most accounts was underwhelming with a very worrisome injury history. Probably not a great comparison and even more so when using it as a sole example. Byram had not lived up to expectations and still returned a 60 point, young second line center who is likely to continue to improve.

Mittelstadt is the player that I wanted Hughes to go after as he plays a strong 200 foot game and is left handed which would allow him to play with either Suzuki or Dach and share faceoff duties on their strong side even though he has really struggled in the dot he might be useful if he only took strong side draws.

Latest is they think he will be ready for the U-18s.

The U-18s is going to be massive for Catton, Helenius, Lindstrom, Iginla and Eiserman.
Yeah.
I'm also interested in seeing what Catton and Iginla accomplish in the post season.
How much ice time and responsibilities they take on.
Obviously that is out of the question for Lindstrom.

You’re right, no update however it wasn’t just an injury but one that required surgery:

« The 18-year-old center for Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League is week to week following surgery to repair an upper-body injury he sustained in December. »

He hasn’t played since Dec. 16th. His surgery took place on Jan. 10th.

Could be a tricky injury that they tried to heal with therapy and when it didn’t work, they opted for surgery (or maybe the delay between the injury and surgery was due in part to the holidays).

The 4-6 week projected rehab following his Jan. 10 surgery, was obviously optimistic however there may have been complications.

Teams will no doubt have access to his medical records and will be able to assess if he represents a re-injury risk. Maybe that will cause him to slip in draft ranks which could benefit the Habs.

Just my 2 cents in trying to connect the dots.

I would probably play it safe and take Catton.

For further clarification, the surgery was on his hand/wrist. The rumoured back injury is something separate that I've really only seen talked about on HF.

McCagg was on sick Podcast tonight. Said if top 3 forwards are gone Habs likely taking right D. He's called the last 2 selections
I don't really like this there's probably 6 forwards I'd take before considering a d with what our prospect pool looks like I also bet they take Yakemchuk before Parekh

Basu- Godin

They were asked if Demidov, Catton and Lindstrom were available, who would the Habs pick.

Godin: Demidov, or Lindstrom.
Basu- same, but ultimately chose Lindstrom.

They go on to talk about Demidov and how the Habs like his compete more and how they'd be more willing to take him.

Basu later added the Habs think they can get Demidov/Lindstrom.

If they're both gone and the Habs view of the top d are gone they could trade it, but doesn't seem convinced.

Thinks the Habs 1st is likely going for a forward and one of the two above

When talking about Catton they had positive things to say, but mentioned that the Habs are aware of the size of their forwards then. When talked about Demidov, who's the same size as Catton, they mentioned high-end skill with Demidov.

Basu said something similar but he seems to really think there gonna be one of Lindstrom or Demidov available where we’ll be.
I can see Lindstrom being there at our pick due to the injuries, Demidov is a pipe dream though unless we're picking 2nd.
