He was ranked 27th by Bob, ahead of Mailloux. He is a fair and good comparable.

Preferring Mailloux to Knies is completely insane, Im sorry. Even if we assume Knies is "only" a middle six winger, which he clearly isn't, Mailloux isn't even guaranteed to be a NHL player.
I don't care where Stankhoven was "ranked" by Bob M. pre-draft, he was drafted 47OA, that's all that matters. So Dallas decided to take a chance on him mid-2nd round but every other team passed on him as well for quite a while (drafting someone that small with a first round pick is a huge risk, obviously). As for LM, he will 100% be an NHL player, how good remains to be seen, but if he develops as expected, he will be more valubalke than Knies.

Yeah well when you set the parameters of your own reality you can literally never be wrong, must be nice to live in another universe.

I think Demidov is a prime candidate to fall close to where we will be picking if we don't win the lottery. I think the fact that he is Russian and undersized will likely push him down the list as team's snatch up all of the highly touted Dmen. There is a very real chance that we could have our pick of any forward not named Celebrini. Lindstrom's injury plus the question mark of whether or not much of his production is just due to physical advantages in junior might also see him drop. If we remain at #7 it is not difficult to envision all of Levshunov, Dickinson, Silayev, Buium, Parekh and Yakemchuk being subsequently picked in no particular order. I think it might even be likely that we get a shot at one of Demidov or Lindstrom. I prefer Demidov but I also really like Catton and Helenius as well. I would love to have any of Iginla, Greentree and possibly Eiserman as well but that would require moving up with our later 1st and more picks.

I want to come out of this draft with a highly touted forward and I would also like to see the Winnipeg pick packaged with other picks/prospects to obtain a young forward prospect with size and skill.

He was drafted 47OA. That is THE reality, not my own reality.

It would be nice to have a 90-100 pt. player for once and while I love Lindstrom’s size, etc, it would be upsetting to pass on Demidov after the Michkov fiasco last year.

You're not wrong, but Berg knew he'd have the backing of most of the franco media on that decision at least. Pretty much everybody up down to and including people who make rotisserie chicken came for him after drafting Logan.

Could not be more wrong about that, go back to read the french media reaction the day after the draft

2 years ago it cost ARI pick 27-34-45 to move up to 11 and grab Geekie

Pick 27 is a likely finish from WPG but we don't have the draft capital this year to do the same. We would need to give '24 COL and surely ours in '25, likely adding a 3rd this year to offset it.
Lots of assets, but would be worth it in our situation.

Either way the challenge is to find a partner to trade. Who would be in a similar spot as SJ was, meaning a team in lack of draft capital that might want to have more quantity than quality?
I’d give up our three number ones for it. Next year’s first plus the two we traded for.

That's a new name for me. I will bookmark his db page so I can follow.

Why you like him? His stats not overwhelming. Physical? 85 PIM

Bergs had a lot of backbone to chose Mailloux
Cap Friendly Scouting report.Wetsch is the kind of player who can be thrust into a variety of roles. He has good size and strength. He never shies away from being engaged in the hard areas - along the wall and out front the net. On the power-play he is efficient as a low flank, or net front option.
Me:Power Forward very physically engaged. 6'3'' very physical. Kind of player who will be needed on a 3rd line

Here's the difference defensively between Demidov and Michkov.

Demidov isn't good defensively but he's on your screen. Michkov isn't good defensively and he isn't in your screen because he's in the neutral zone cherry picking.
Don’t we dare say anything negative about Michkov.

rt post: really love this kid’s game. I’ve watched probably 20 Calgary games this year and he’s always impressive. Like a Blake Coleman/Tanner Jeannot hybrid. He’s tough as nails, skates well, good both ways, and has some real talent. I’m really surprised he’s not more productive. I don’t know what to make of it. When you watch him, he really LOOKS like a player. But his stats really aren’t special.

When is Lindstrom due to play again?

Yeah you crazy :D

You're trading a probable Habs top 10 pick in 2025, possible #11-15 Flames pick in 2025 and the Jets pick in 2024 for what?

I'd be fine moving the Jets and Flames/Panthers 1sts but no chance I'm moving Habs 2025 1st.
we have so many picks and prospects right now. It makes sense to consolidate it for a guy who might wind up being the best goal scorer of the draft. It accelerates the rebuild, we get another first line player.

I’d do it.

I believe he has played as a center in the past (U16,U17 and MHL), albeit sporadically.

yes they have put him at center in the MHL on the PP before as I know you can see it in either the last Demidov vid I did or the one before it.

Hughs said they most likely draft for need this year
Weren't they drafting for need last year? Reinbacher wasn't BPA.

----

This is for 2025 draft thread but don't think that exists yet.

I wonder if Markstrom is traded in the offseason, since ownership already vetoed a trade to NJD, they're probably worried about attendance, they're bottom 5 in the league. Imagine what season ticket holders will do if their star goalie is traded. Winnipeg's low attendance is probably in their minds right now.

Hopefully he stays and we get a 11-15 pick from Cgy in 2025.

This is misleading, the full quote was "if there is a player available that is better and more skilled than the rest, we will draft that player. But all things equal, we would draft for need".

So if there is a clear BPA they will pick him regardless of position. If they view two players of different position as close/equal, they will pick the "need".

I like Catton and Iginla. Just imagine if the latter has dog in him like his father.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Iginla/Catton - Dach - X

Will be missing one more good forward

What need was that? The top prospects were already almost all defensemen. They’re building a team and, to them, Reinbacher was the best player to add.

That simple.
Huh?!? The consensus majority of all prospects near the Habs draft spot in 2023 were forwards, there were very few defencemen. Reinbacher was ranked on average 12th for all scouting reports, the highest of which was 8th by McKenzie.

Our need was much greater for forwards rather than D, and it was common knowledge the 2024 draft would be stacked in D at the top.

He might have been BPA in their mind but its not an easy sell to say he would have been BPA to the general public.

Doesn't mean I won't root for his success, but I don't fully understand their draft strategy.
