Always take the player that you believe is the BPA.......no discussion other than that is worth having.
Except they didn’t do even do that last year with the 5th pick, so . . . they almost certainly won’t if they’re drafting lower than that this year, which is likely.

The Habs can always trade a player if something arises. Guys like Levshunov, Buium and Dickinson could be norris winning Ds, especially the first two ones have packages that we just don't have in the pipeline. Im sure Mailloux, Hutson, Engstrom or others could return good forwards.

We have a 1C ;), and two top line W plus a 1B and a 2nd LW, we just need to fill in the 2nd line RW, that could be done by trading from a position of strength, like the Ducks did with Drysdale.
Issue with that is establishing trade value for our young D when there's a blockage and developmental stagnation happening as a result

Hughes has acquired loads of futures during his tenure, so we can definitely survive turning some of those assets into a big quality piece. We can't just draft quantity ad vitam aeternam, there's a contract limit and you have to leave room for the players in the line-up eventually to see what they have there.

Although it may be a move they'd be wiser to do at next year's draft instead of the coming one. We'll have more data on the progression of guys like Roy, Heineman, Kidney, Farrell, Beck, Hutson, etc.

2024 may be the last draft where Habs pick below 10th in some time, I think this team is middle-of-the-pack as soon as next year (barring more terrible luck with the injuries *touches wood*).
I completely agree. We have a surplus of assets and need to start using it as currency to upgrade our prospects/draft position.

I think Roy cracks the lineup next year and we might just manage to be a bubble team. We’ll see.

They unarguably took the player that they identified as the BPA and were very open about that. Your personal rankings have absolutely no relevance to their rankings

No, they said he was the best RHD in the draft. Hughes was pretty clear about that. And it might be a great pick . . . only time will tell.

Trading up in the top 10 is usually rare, it wasn't happening last year because there was a consensus top 4 and it never was really challenged.

This year, I think the evaluations on these guys are gonna be pretty different after the top 3. We will have to wait for Bob's final rankings but I'd Silayev and Levshunov stay at 2 and 3, those are strong bets as defenseman to go at those spots (maybe not that order), after that you might have a team that's more than happy to trade from 4 to 7 with the Habs, pick up a treasure chest of more picks and be satisfied that they'll get one of Dickinson, Buium or Parekh knowing the Habs are going forward anyway.

I've been saying it since the Monahan trade, but I would love for the team to find a way to draft Sacha Boisvert......The only issue is that I think he will end up going in the late teens.

So in terms of forward tiers, we're looking at the following:

Celebrini

Lindstrom
Demidov

Catton
Eiserman
Helenius
Iginla
I have it as Mack and Ivan in a tier of their own and Lindstrom mixed in with the other group. Unsure of the actual ranking yet.

Yes, I really want Sacha. Him or Greentree

Lidstrom is listed above Catton just because he is 6.4 and Catton is 5.11

I think that Catton will have a better NHL career

We'd be lucky to have either of them or Lindstrom.

That's really my field of 3 forwards outside of Celebrini right now.

All 4 of them have the ability to transform our fortunes.

Should you be doing that on a public forum?

Joking aside, I agree with you.

I want to find huge flaws with Catton like some people here but the more I watch him the more I like him even more. He is a NHL player trapped in a skinny teenage boy body. His vision, the way he attacks the middle and offensive zone or play quick passes. No hesitation, always in movement, can slow down or accelerate the tempo, good shot. I agree with the consensus though that he is most likely not a center in the NHL and he should play as left winger but in 4 or 5 years when he is fully grown and matured physically he will be a top star player.

It's too bad Kiviharju has been injured most of the year. He's not the kind of guy we would target but he's fun to watch and maybe some team would've drafted him before our pick.

He's like Hutson with better skating, worse vision
