Catton may be a good 2nd line center, I think he lacks the "wow" factor. Sure, he can battle in corners at a Junior level, not so sure if he can do it at an NHL level. Margins are so thin, even just that 3 % difference pushes you down the league hierarchy really fast. Reaching on him would have me feeling underwhelmed. I think the Hawks pick too high for him to be a serious candidate. I'd expect him to be gone by Tampa's pick, so I think it's just not a fit.

I'd take Demidov and take whatever risk of Russian society entirely collapsing in the next 24 months before he'd be able to relocate to Illinois, for that upside, over him in a heartbeat.

As I posted before, 2 of the more unheralded 2024 draft eligibles were the stars of the Kabota CHL-NHL Top Prospects game...Center Raul Boilard of Baie Comeau in the Q had 2g 1a ...1 was an en goal...1 the other came from digging the puck out from the opposing goalie a scrum at the crease...But he was solid defensively too and won4/7 draws ..he has good size and I noticed his skating was quick and good..Plus he is 6'2 190 already..His scouting reports reflects a two way centre who provides good cebter support all over the ice.. do not know if he has top six projectability..but could be a big strong reliable 2 way 3C type...Ttere were some other chances he got ir himself or created for linemates.. so maybe not a star pitential but rath er a solid good hockey player..He leads all Q rookies in scoring. So maybe another 2nd round option if he lasts to ourcmiddlevofvourc3 picks in the round?
He may get a longer look from scouts because he plays on Baie Comeau which is a top team in the Q and could go all the way to the Memorial Cup.
The other star of this game was RD Colton Robert's (Vancouver Giants)who had had 2 assists (1 was a beautiful saucer pass to his LD partner who had snuck in deep and for a 1 -timer)
He led all dmen in scoring points and also led all players in +/- at +3.
He plays for Vancouver Giants and theyare not a good team this year...he is around half a point a gane and an ugly +/- at -35 ...but that could reflect playing on a bad team...because looking at his game playing with good talent in the Top Prisoects Game ,he really shone.. even apart from his offensive production...I noticed hom shift after shift he was on...I my mind I kept saying nice defensive pkay forca break-up...nice physical check...nice pass-up to forward.. nice transition carry..he just was very noticeably good
considtently through the game..I think he is a prospect way too under-ranked as a latex40s to mid 70s range ...the rankings could be biased by not factoring i tge lousy team he plays on this season.. but I reallyy liked what I saw fron him ..

Again only 1 game ..but I would advise KD to send his WHL scouts to follow this kid restvog the season.. I do not know if I would use the TB first rounder on him...but he played that well in this game to merit even thinking about it. AFTER THIS GAME I doubt any GM thinks he us getting a steal f he takes him late first,/early 2nd ..At his 6'4 191 size and a Right shot D ,he will be coveted much earlier than the current rankings have him.
It is just hard to guage a prospect who plays on abad team.

He was notv my radar ..but now he is...

O do see that NHK Central Scoutibg has honat #24 N.A skater...Ad in some euros and this means a realistic latecfirst to early 2ndcrangevoick...But his ConsokidatedcRankibg is onky at #75...which ascUvsaidxwas way way too low given what I saw of him in hist thisx1 game.. They need to re-asses that awful ranking no doubt influenced by his stats playingv forca abad team that they did not factor in from the ranking orgs they relied on. One ranking had him atv#47 ...I do nit think he lasts that long..

If Hawks get Celebrini at #1 or Cayden Lindstrom if we pick at #2or#3 ton#5: then grabbing another RD with that TB pick might be the way to go...because nitcsure Robert's will lat to #34 for us to grab there .

Top 2 rounds of this draft are going to be stocked with good players. What are the odds we can get a 4th 2nd rounder at the deadline?

I would say the only way would be either to trade a player TJ and give up a 3rd rounder. IE probably only move up 10-15 spots or take on bad contract. we dont have any players avlaible that we get a 2nd on there own.

No more draft picks. Should be flipping the picks we have for better picks or finding Patrick Sharp.

Speaking of Sharp. I find it slightly annoying for some reason that he’s playing Flyers alumni games and went “home” to the Flyers Org. Love Sharp he’s ours not theirs. They had him buried in Lehigh Valey. He isn’t a Flyers alumni.

we can always use the picks to trade for players in the off season or trade the picks for future picks. there is no limit on the # of quality assets you have. not using cap space as an asset and keeping players after the trade deadline we know we are not resigning makes no sense.

You gotta have what others want. It is t a one way street. We don’t have much of anything to trade.

What's the point?
You know to get better..more bites at the apple..we are already seeing noted busts such as your boy "Ian Mitchell" and Lucas Reichel not panning out. I would love to trade Tampa pick and all of rd 2 picks tp move up and have 2 top 10 picks in this draft. I want one of "Celebrini, Lindstrom, Levshunov" and then one of " Catton, Buium, Silayev, Parekah"

Reichel doesn't even have a full season of NHL games under his belt yet. Not sure how you can say "he hasn't panned out" already. Most players take more than a single season to develop into what they ultimately will be at the NHL level...

What's the point?
The 2022-2025 drafts are our rebuild drafts. Seeing that this draft might be one of our last drafts of non-competitive seasons, it is a crucial point in our rebuild process. Our prospect pool is nice, but this draft is very important to hit on and can determine our future significantly.

Getting a late 2nd in this year's draft isn't going to fix that

It's going to be a quiet deadline for the Hawks
It’ll be quiet if they only are trading players for picks. There are no players on expiring contracts that are worth anything. The only way the Hawks are players at the deadline is if they take bad contracts to help others open up cap space.

I really want Tampa to be as bad as possible for the rest of the season (I know...everyone does) and get Tij Iginla with that pick. We need as many skill guys as we can get right now

Don't normally see extremely skilled, soft guys go like this. Catton giving Tij Iginla all he can handle.

I wouldn't be nervous about his ability to battle and fully expect him to play at 185-190 when its all said and done.

Had two more goals last night in a 4-3 win over PG.

Catton looks really good but he is similar to Nazar , Moore and Ludwinski . Better look at RD and size up front for Davidson .

Raul Boilard is a guys I'm watching intently. He has been jumping up a lot in the rankings.

Marek Vanacker is another that could be a big player. He plays bigger than his size and is pretty talented with a hard work ethic.
