The SNY Mets broadcast was discussing that cubs games. Were a little surprise the starter was pulled, but they reasoned i guess he got close to 100 pitches already?

That's still a great outcome for the Cubs. The Cubs too were on a great winstreak too and can't gain a lot of ground. Met's have just won 7 in a row and still 0.5 gb and even so last night all three teams above won.

This NL WC race is pretty insane.

Still time but both teams are going to have to continue to win out..... because it looks like none of the above teams are going to dip too much.

yep, gained nothing

I'm the ultimate casual with baseball but it would be cool to see both NY teams in the playoffs this October.
Other than the same city aspect and having to pick a side, I've long since been very adamant that it's fine to be fans of both the Yankees and Mets.

They didn't even play each other (other than spring training) for like the first 20 years of my life. Now they play a series at Yankee Stadium and a series at Citifield every year, and there was the one world series matchup.

But they aren't rivals like the Devils and Rangers or Rangers and Islanders. Or Nets and Knicks. Outside of their head to head matchups they're never gonna be competing for the same playoff spot or in a playoff matchup until the world series, which did happen once.

Same thing with the Giants and Jets, who literally play every 4-5 years? Other than their annual preseason game at the stadium. Though I have next to no interest in football, and really haven't since I was a kid.

Eh, all my Mets buddies I want to college with despise the Yanks and my Yanks friends don't even care about the Mets. Maybe it's a little brother/big brother thing but I never got the hate either. Both are in different leagues/conferences, played once in the World Series, etc.

That’s been my experience as well. One of my frat brothers was the son of a Mets executive. He was part of a group from Ling Island at my college that were very loyal Mets fans. As a Yankees fan if the Yankees were not involved I would always root for the Mets but they felt a bit awkward returning the favor. It’s understandable. As a Yankees fan you had an expectation of a good team and any bad season was quickly forgotten. The Mets struggled far longer.

We're both old enough to remember when the Yankees were REEALLLLLLYYYYYYYYY bad for a while there.

The Yankees were a non-playoff team probably from the time I was in Kindergarten until the year after I graduated high school. Which was the Don Mattingly era. They were having a really hot 1994, but we all remember how that season ended. Without a playoffs/world series.

If I'm not mistaken, they missed the playoffs for all but the final year of the Don Mattingly era? They made the world series in 81 and then they missed the next year, where he debuted very late in the season. They had a couple of decent seasons, but just missed the playoffs barely a few of those times, but I think they also had some dreadful ones in that stretch.

And then they would have made them in 94 if not for the strike ending the season, and they would finally make them again in the last season of his career. And then his first year not playing they won the world series and had the first of like 5 out of 6 or 6 out of 7 years in the world series?

I felt bad for him.
