I read something - forgetting where - that Kudashov cannot be signed because he's 2025 draft eligible. Does anyone know if that's correct? It seems like if it were true and Lou was interested in drafting him, it's almost like he's advertising that, which seems very un-Lou.

I think he can simply be signed although he IS still draft-eligible at 20.

In essence, once you're draft-eligible, you can be outright signed for a certain amount of time before the following draft IF you go undrafted.

And teams have done this over the course of time. Not often, but at times. Philly did it with Philippe Myers like 10 years ago. Invited him to rookie camp as an undrafted CHLer. Then signed him.

You're simply eligible for the draft for a certain period of time (Euro players 1 year longer than North Americans). But if you go undrafted, you can be signed to an ELC.

ASIDE:
Speaking of which, there was a German player who was a bit of shooting star in the DEL last season and seemed like a likely draft pick. Although he just turned 20 a couple of weeks ago, it was actually his 3rd shot at being drafted. He did NOT get drafted, but immediately showed up at the Maple Leafs' summer prospect camp.

Word here is, they'd have been interested in signing him to an ELC if certain other signings (likely RFA-related) did not work out.

As I understand it, anyone could simply sign him right now although he is still draft-eligible. He'll kick off this season tonight with Red Bull Munich.

Do denote - and I don't think this applies to Russia - that there is an agreement in place between the NHL and basically all major European leagues that sees clubs here get a compensation fee for European players signed by NHL teams. That also goes for players drafted by NHL teams.

Not going to get excited over practice but Holmstrom really emerging would be amazing for us. He was the shorthanded king last year. If he continues to play a strong 2 way game and can manage 20+ goals that would be huge for us.

I think Holmstrom has a good work ethic. We know he’s good along the boards. For him, as well as kids like Dufour and Bolduc, it’s about being more assertive on the ice. Taking a shot, taking an extra step up on a play instead of heading back up ice so as not to get caught defensively.

Holstrom does have skills to put up numbers. Kid was a tad unselfish last year. Playing more assertive would be a welcome addition

A TAD?

Chapin and I were talking about how Roy should make it clear if he fell below 2.5 shots per game, he'd be benched for a few games. If he gets to 200 shots on goal, he'll be scoring a bunch. He's got 21 goals on 111 SOG's in 125 games.

So one day Roy says he wants to see Holmstrom and Wahlstrom act like they're fighting for a job, which they are, and the next day he singles out Holmstrom for really standing out in a positive way. If it really is Holmstrom, Wahlstrom and Fasching fighting for one spot, to me it's not even a close call that Holmstrom should be the guy based on past performance, and if he's taking a step forward, even better.

Gotta say even my patience with Wally is wearing thin. The "waivers by October" comment may be true. We all wanted to see him succeed and truly round out his game. Training camp just started, so hopefully he is taking Roy's comments to heart. The head coach seems to be a guy who just tells it like there is and no cryptic message.

Wally just looks uncomfortable stick handling the puck and looks like he is carrying a grenade. This paired with a lack of an explosive first step and lack of hockey sense on a crowded roster spells "other opportunities". He held out for more money, so you think he would be motivated and hungry.

Yep, kid needs to be shooting.

And not only did we see that, but someone around here kept saying he's gonna be Pastrnak, so get this kid the puck.

Not saying it will happen, but Pastrnak's first two seasons weren't all that different from Holmstrom's . . .

I have a been a really big defender of Holmstrom on here since I saw him play in the NHL. I was unsure of his potential but I still do see an eventual 20 goal scorer who is defensively responsible, strong on the puck, and playing a middle six role.

Does anyone know anything about RHD Aiden Fulp? Apparently he has incredible endurance because he's been killing it during the bag skates.

He played 3 NCAA season and had a very uneventful rookie season as a pro, but if his skating is high end and he's got size he could be a candidate to make some noise down in BPT this season. This organization really needs a RHD prospect since Hutton never took it to the next level.

Guys who can skate and are in great shape are always exciting. Those are the guys that you really look forward to trying to develop.

Dennis Siedenberg is a guy that comes to mind. He was a decent/good skater when he was younger but he was an absolute freak athlete. The flyers put alot of time with him to develop his defensive game. It took him while but eventually it all came together for him and he was a legit NHL top4 defender for a handful of seasons with BOS and was really good for us as well
