Yeah, for better or worse, Korchinski is the incumbent in the spot, so his spot has to be "taken" (and he also likely gets preferential treatment due to invested draft capital) rather than a true "battle" for the spot.I mean I would say the odds are definitely in his favor but there are like 4 LD that could feasibly take that spot and I would say he is in the lead but Kaiser, EDM are right there with him. He's got the inside track, but I wouldn't call it a lock.
Regardless, Vlasic has played only 21 more games than him at the NHL level and isn't on the list, because he is an absolute lock.
Health pending, probably looking at opening night:
Vlasic-Jones
Korchinski-Murphy
Martinez-Brodie
Phillips (out of waiver-exempt)
Kaiser (waiver-exempt)
Del Mastro (waiver-exempt)
Crevier (barely waiver-exempt)
Allan (waiver-exempt)
Korchinski could get sent down if he is struggling though and replaced with Kaiser or Del Mastro. Phillips could also easily ride the waiver bus, but he's someone you can easily shuffle in and out of lineup/press box.
