I think we're at the point where we have so many decent prospects that i'd rather take some swings and move up to try and add some high end skill players to our organization as i don't see any with top end skill at the forward spots.

2014 draft , we should be very happy with Larkin at 15 and Boston Pasternak at 24. How was Florida choice at #1?

This really is not the draft to move up. I'm fine with MBN or Hage at 15 and a major swing at upside in the 2nd, and we could trade the rest of our picks and I wouldn't be mad at the draft.

The picks we make in this draft are 2-3 years away in any event. A descion on our current prospects has to be made this year or maybe next. This draft will be about replacing not joining our current crop. Keep the picks and trade the prospects that don’t fit in

If you want to move up a couple of places, sure. You are not, however, going to be trading into the top 10 if that is what you are suggesting. It just doesn't happen very often in the NHL. You can take a look at the trade history function on Capfriendly if you want to depress yourself.

We have seen in a few different cases, Detroit is not scared to deviate from the consensus.

Who are some players you could see Detroit liking with the first pick that might look like “reaches” to the general public?

I could see them liking Basha, Boisvert, Beaudoin, or Luchanko. Maybe even Lucas Petterson with how he finished the year.

On defense I could see them liking Freij, Emery, or Sahlin Welenius

Birmingham, MI
Pronman Mock

15. Detroit Red Wings: Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, RW, Mora (SWEDEN-2)

To say Brandsegg-Nygard screams Detroit prospect may be an overstatement. He’s highly competitive and plays in Sweden — what more can you want?! He also fits a pressing need for them of addressing a scoring winger.

BTW, Eiserman went #17 to Washington

Really hoping the Wings take Hage if he's still there

MBN would be pretty meh but it'd be whatever
Floor for MBN is very high , but we don't know about sealing, we never seen him playing with higher skill guys. What if he is the one that feets Larkin - Raymond line

I think MBN is at worst a 15-20 goal 3rd liner that can bang around on the forecheck, kill penalties and can really come through during the tough grind it out type of games. Like I said before, he does a lot of what I like about Lawson Crouse's game. I think he's safely that player. Maybe a TJ Oshie/David Perron but with a little more goalscoring?

Best case scenario of Timo Meier is a possibility, though I think unlikely. I think a good bit of that is dependent upon which scoring line he's on. He's likely the 3rd best scorer on whatever line he's on.

Do not want MBN, we have too many of those type. Its time to take a swing for once, we need high upside offensive forward, Rather Take Eiserman or Hage at 15

Who else do you like to see Red Wings pick at 15? Also second round choice

This post might not age too great by the end of next season.

Johnson (like Byfield) was super raw as a prospect on draft night but had tons of talent/upside. You have to give those guys some time.

It might not, but i still stand by it. I don't think Hage is talented enough too pull this kind of stuff on regular basis in the NHL, he is not even as talented as Zegras, and Zegras has some difficulties to do so. I understand if we were talking about top 5 pick, but it's somebody who might not even be picked within Top 20 and already struggling with consistancy even on that level

He had like 50 something points over the last 30 something games of the season. So he wasn’t really struggling at all. Also keep in mind he missed like the whole prior season to injury, so it’s going to take him some time to get back into a groove. He was one of the best players in the USHL from January on.

I also don’t think he is some skill only guy. The kid will probably be like 6’1 or 6’2 and 200 lbs in a few years and can play down the middle and might round out the rest of his game in college.

Really can’t see any reason someone wouldn’t want Hage in the teens, but that’s just me.
