Maybe. He will be 21 before the season is over, what else can he learn down there?Glad that he's down in the OHL again this season. He needs a strong offseason of training before being a potentially impactful pro.

Better he stay there and have more time to get bigger, stronger and faster than get rushed and spend an entire season in the ECHL IMO. It lets his ELC slide a year (if we've even signed him yet?).Maybe. He will be 21 before the season is over, what else can he learn down there?
Incorrect. ELC only slide if they are 18-19. He was 20 when we drafted him. We haven’t signed him yet though.Better he stay there and have more time to get bigger, stronger and faster than get rushed and spend an entire season in the ECHL IMO. Wakely to UMass Lowell per Divver.
That's the assumption, but we're waiting for the new/amended CBA to confirm that.Interesting, this will extend the Oilers rights hold on him, right?

That's why the NCAA route is great now for most CHLers: play against age appropriate competition for 2-3 years in the NCAA instead of being thrown into the A and/or the Coast at 20/21 years old when you're probably not ready.Good move for him going the NCAA route
Overall, I wasn't/still not a fan of over-ager CHL picks. Those guys always seem to fizzle out as soon as they go pro. E.g., Stefan, Jake Chiasson, Grubbe, etc
Several NHL teams will advise their CHL prospects to go to the NCAA for a couple years to develop better before signing. We'll wait and see what happens after this draftI wonder if we see more guys doing this.
This works very well for Wakey, who if he's going to make it, it's going to be as a grinding 3/4C. This gives him a year or two in the weight room to get some man strength before going pro and starting his waiver clock.
