Usually this gets posted every year, feels good to be posting it :)

You automatically qualify to be engraved if you play 41 games in the regular season or dress for 1 Cup final game. Josh Mahura, 30 regular season games, no Finals games, and Jonah Gadjovich, 39 regular season games, no Finals games, were the 2 players successfully petitioned on this year, everyone else listed automatically qualified.

Just another reason why this is the coolest trophy in all of pro sports. The engraving is so personal, each letter stamped individually. As much as it pains me to say, congrats to all those lucky bastages on that team and on that cup.

Are a bunch of those former players now scouts or something? I know Hornvist is retired...
Or coaches, player development, or trainee management.

There are two blocks of names in cup engravings, in roughly equal numbers. The top block is ownership, coaching, management, trainers, whoever the team wants to put on there, as long as they work for the team (and don't exceed the number of allowable names). Frontline scouts usually don't make the cut, but if the team wants to include them, they can. Generally the head scout will be there somewhere.

The bottom block is the players, starting with the Captain. It'll always be on a new line.

Short rule: If their name comes before the team captain, they're not a player.

You seem knowledgeable on the subject, do you know how they determine the order of players? It seems random outside of the Captain.

Up to 52. They have to include all players who qualify (and can petition to add players who don't qualify by the normal rules) so the number of leftover slots available for team ownership and staff varies depending on the number of players.

After the captain, it's alphabetical by last name.

And then there are cases where somebody screws up, forgets a name, and it has to be added out of order, which is what I think happened with Matt Caldwell's name there. He's not a player at all and should be in the management bloc. Whoops.

Ridiculous though that they can't by default include a player that played in 40 games and the playoffs prior to the finals, but can include any relative of the owner.

Works in the front office, apparently very involved in the team's scouting of Swedish prospects.

I know he will always be remembered as a Penguin, but he played a huge role in turning the Panthers around when he got here.
