Take Robertsson where? He’s injured. What I’d like to know is what he injured and how bad it is. I haven’t seen anything on that yet and it’s been at least a week.
Matthew Robertson, the defenseman from the Rangers on waivers.

Ah, ok. That makes a lot more sense actually.

Or does it? I don’t know much of anything about him but looks like a career minor leaguer type. Big though. But could the Blues even do that? If they put Perunovich on waivers today, he wouldn’t clear or be claimed until tomorrow so he’d still have to count for the opening day roster due this afternoon. And then Robertson would count too. Don’t see how that’d work. Maybe it’s possible by sending Bolduc down on just a paper transaction and then recalling him tomorrow but idk. If Capfriendly still existed I’d crunch the numbers but I’m not going to bother trying to weed through one of the inferior replacement sites trying to figure it out. I’ll just wait until the 23-man roster is announced later today. 😜

I lied. I 100% did the math. Bolduc has to be sent down, at least on paper, for the 23-man roster to work.

The Blues will announce the 23-man roster sometime today but here’s what it pretty much has to be:

Bolduc is practicing in Seattle today but as the 13th forward. He will have to be sent to Springfield to make the Cap work. Could only be a paper transaction though as they could easily put Krug on LTIR tomorrow and have the Cap space to add him back to the roster. They did the exact same thing with Neighbours a year ago.

13 Forwards: Thomas, Kyrou, Buchy, Schenn, Holloway, Neighbours, Texier, M.Joseph, Kapanen, Toropchenko, Faksa, Walker, Sundqvist*

Non-Roster: Saad

*they could throw Sunny in the IR column and technically go with a 22-man roster but it has the same result either way.

8 D-men: Parayko, Leddy, Faulk, Broberg, Suter, Kessel, Joseph, Perunovich

IR: Krug

2 Goalies: Binny, Hofer

So they’ll have 25 guys counting against the Cap but that’ll still a bit under the Cap…but not enough room to also include Bolduc. At least not today.

They’ll have to make decisions once Saad comes off non-roster and Sunny can play…but they’ll have a lot of wiggle room in terms of the Cap once they can place Krug on LTIR.

Before his draft year he was unanimously seen as a top-10 pick lock. I think injuries derailed him from there, but I don’t remember exactly. He hasn’t ever been a power play guy, he’s going to be a steady defensive presence. We have lots of those guys kicking around the system, and if you’re not bringing elite traits to the table idk why you’d add another left-shot body that needs development time into the mix. The only argument would be if you know you’re gonna send Scotty Hockey down anyways, and you want to roll the dice on a guy 3 years younger instead. I can see the argument of turning the page, cutting your losses, etc, but it would really only have a small chance of working out positively imo.

Can anyone confirm Bolduc is in Seattle with the team? If so it’s a paper transaction and he’ll be one of the 23.

Bolduc is not listed on the opening day roster

Yes, Bolduc was on the ice for practice in Seattle today.

Agree he’ll be added to the roster tomorrow or they would’ve just sent him to Springfield a day or two ago with the others and not bothered to have flown him to Seattle and paid for his hotel room there.

The Blues average age with this roster is 28.8.......I believe that is older then the average age last season.
As someone else pointed out, 2 Blues draft picks out of 40 in the last 5 drafts are on the roster............

Not sure what kind of a rebuild you expected but this seems like more of the same old dudes they have rolled out the last 2 seasons.

The Blues management has said repeatedly they aren't rebuilding.

Its a retool so that means dead end players like Krapanen and Walker have to play over our prospects who actually have upside. That's how retools work

And Walker and Kapanen are going to end up being 4th liners or healthy scratches. Do you want your prospects stuck in the press box instead of playing top line minutes?

At least one if not both are playing the first game so that is TBD. Would prefer Dean on the 4th line to Walker

Even with Krug out, Suter is the outlier skewing the graph.

It looks like everyone who we thought was going to make the roster is on the roster.

The last spot will come down to Scotty P or POJ and my money is POJ as he is more likely to be claimed off waivers.

EDIT: There seems to be some mixed information out there. I guess we will see. Like someone else posted, maybe Bolduc is just a technical transaction.

Don't forget Suter over PO Joseph. What's even worse about that one is this is likely Suter's last season, so there is zero ROI here with him. If this team is still anticipating next season having higher expectations, why not invest in PO now?

Injuries happen. I’m sure POJ will get plenty of game action this year.
