The Sens did want Sanderson to leave college a year earlier, he would have likely still stepped in rather seamlessly and would have only been a few months older than Yak.

It's a bit of an assumption to assume it would have been as seamless a transition an entire season earlier.

We will see if he is ready and get a better evaluation of where he is at when he starts in a few regular season games. The pace and the intensity will be increased and the teams will be playing all of their starting players. But from a small sample size in preseason he does not look out of place. He has been more noticeable than JBD, Hamonic, and Kleven. He hasn't made more mistakes than Chabot makes on a pretty regular basis.

The way Ottawa has played in the last few games, what's funny is whether they can afford not to give Yak 9 games if they want a good start.

Do you still rank them like this:

1. Buium
2. Dickenson
3. Levshunov
4. Silayev
5. Yakemchuk
6. Parekh

I’d have them (this is rankings long term of course)

1. Buium
2. Dickenson
3. Lev
4. Yakemchuk
5. Silayev
6. Parekh

Green talked about the turnover, said he thought at first it was a bad one but after seeing the replay show it hit the ref, he thinks it was a smart play and could have led to a three on two, says the wingers did a good job pushing the play,

Well that's progress!

I mean I was positive about Yak. I defended him multiple times earlier in the offseason before he played . He’s surprised me most about his improved defensive play and because Silayev handles the puck like a grenade and is a pure shut down guy to say why Yak jumped him for now .

Also I’ve mentioned it lots but I’m still an advocate for Yak to be sent back to junior . This is a player we cannot rush as he needs to still learn the game and grow into his body. I don’t want his offense stunted by being rushed to the NHL

I think cooler heads will prevail in this department.

He was drafted as a project. I don't think that's changed.

For my part, I've given up assessing Senators' draft picks in cowardly fashion after eating crow on Tkachuk and Sanderson.

Still very early but a couple of Sens posters who are big mouth self proclaimed “draft gurus” looking pretty bad right now with their takes on Carter.
Seriously though, his offence won't translate 🤭

Yeah I was impressed by Struble, is he waiver eligible? Wouldn't mind picking him up and sending Klevin down as I am not impressed so far and don't think he's ready.

Absolutely no chance Montreal leaves Struble unprotected

He was already looking like a keeper last season.

Your post came off as “Jensen might be as good as Zub will be at 34”.

It’s not even logic, I don’t even know what you’re saying. It was pretty easy to understand that sentence. Don’t expect a Zub level player with Jensen. Maybe Zub at 34 y/o will be at the same level as Jensen but for now, he’s a tier above. Very basic reading comprehension unless you’re deliberately do NOT want to understand.

Will be interesting to see if Yak or Sanderson are the better player long term. Who gets the pp1 etc.

It would be pretty wild if he gets sent down without tasting regular season action at this point.

It appears he has turned heads with his defensive game, and the offensive output is a bonus. If he can play a few games and platoon with JBD and Hamonic, that is great. He earns some NHL chedda, practices with NHL players and continues to soak up experience.

I think the expectation is that he ends up back in junior as he goes through the inevitable rookie slump and trials/tribulations, but ride is out as long as he can.

In the summer, I don't think he made himself a lock for Team Canada, but this should certainly raise his stock and unless he is a legit NHL regular, I can't imagine the Senators keeping him from playing for TC in Ottawa, so he goes back down then.

Exactly. We have enough young guys on the roster dealing with chronic injuries as it is. It's one of the side effects (not the only reason, of course!) of being a bad team and rushing kids into the league.

We really need to stop doing that. Yak has been looking really, really promising.....last thing we need is this kid to get a "Norris shoulder" or have "Tyler Boucher luck". It's a damned epidemic on this team.

Yak will make the opening day roster. Yak does big things to help you win games, JBD doesn’t do things to help you win games. If you’re a coach in charge of winning, makes your decision pretty easy. It’ll be a hard decision for the GM

Who was rushed? Norris played two NCAA and one in the AHL seasons. Boucher isn't even in the NHL so you can't say he was rushed.

Stutzle and Tkachuk didn't suffer at all from playing their draft years and aren't injury prone.

Chabot and Pinto have had injuries but weren't rushed.

Agreed. Yak has outplayed some of our so-called NHL level D; o if we want a good start, we should probably keep him in the lineup for at least 9 games or he starts to falter

Still?! That's absolutely astonishing to me.
I am not updating my list at this time because I have not seen all of the D players we might have drafted, and because it is too soon to do so. But Yak has been impressive.
