Prospect Info: [2024 - 5th] Ivan Motherbleeping Demidov (RW), SKA St. Petersburg (MHL)

Much to the disappointment of Montreal fans, Kent Hughes announced that SKA St. Petersburg forward Ivan Demidov will not be able to join the Montreal Canadiens this season due to his current KHL contract.

This is for the best. He starts his 3 year ELC next year too. One year older and 3 years at a very good cap hit is a good situation. ELC is age 20-22 and one year longer than Hutson.

Think about how the cap will go.
* 24/25: $88M
* 25/26: $92M (projected)
* 26/27: $95M+
* 27/28: $98M+?
* 28/29: Cap stability growth by then and at the same year Demidov will need an extension

What will happen is unpredictability with cap growth and so many agents pushing the AAV's up over the next few seasons. Demidov needing a new extension after the cap growth stabilizes is a good thing IMO. Why? Because so many guys getting extensions in the next 2 years will be some crazy numbers based on a "higher projected gap growth". Agents are going to give GM's fits.

This exact same thing happened with Subban back when... timing of when he needed an extension and at the same time the cap was expected to grow by a lot. I have a little concern about how Hutson/Agent push for the next contract. Bridging him would be a massive mistake

How good is his brother, seems to be best point producer in VHL.

Demidov has a brother and he is playing well with no NHL contract?

Rotenberg may be a master BS artist but he has a lot of personality. Hughes seemed uncomfortable and Bobrov wanted to bail ASAP. Vinnie was refreshingly honest. Rotenberg must have extracted some sort of “commitment” from the Habs in exchange for more TOI for our boy, and I don’t mean money.

I've been putting off watching that video because the cringe potential is well beyond my limit.

No surprise....................talk about something to look forward to in September!!!!
The kid looks like the real deal.

There is still an outside chance Demidov can sign this year but Hughes can't really talk about it. Yes, the KHL season ends later but what happens if SKA falls out of the playoffs early and the Habs are still playing? There is no way Hughes can talk about this with the media. Imagine the SKA managers hearing it well in advance of the KHL playoffs and we are basically saying we want them to loose in the playoffs early? Bad for business and the relationship with SKA.

Sounds like Demidov is off the top line for tomorrow's game as they will look to shake up the lineup after getting their ass kicked last game. SKA now sits 6th in their conference, 1 pt up from 7th (8 make the playoffs but they are a lock to make them as they are 12 pts up with a gm in hand on the 9th placed team). They are facing Makar Khanin's team but I don't know if he will play as he did just get more ice time in one game then he's had in his entire KHL career combined but then the next game he was back in juniors.

Demote the best player on the team to shake up the lines. Such a Rotten thing to do!

see what I did there?

What’s funny is we all saw it coming and said as much, he’s being punished for not producing even though no one else did.

Unreal display of incompetence

Doesn't matter. He'll be playing 16-18 minutes a night next year, PP1 out of training camp, with lots of leash. I'm past caring what Rotenberg does anymore.
It'll be PP2 to start , similarly to how Hutson started this year
Just to be "respectful" lol
But we all know.. that won't last too long thankfully

The real issue, and it's underrated going to be an interesting problem once we need to cross this bridge is
Who gets kicked off PP1 lol..

I think the only 2 lock for pp1 are Hutson (the pp qb) and Suzuki (proven ppg ish guy and he is the center). After that Laine with his shot is a pp machine so i dont see them removing him from there. So if Demidov get pp1 time it will be over Slaf or Caufield. Slaf might have less pure talent but he is a 6"3 that can park his a** in front of the net so hard decision.

All good for now
Weathered the storm best we could
Some guys gotta step up a bit, Slaf

We gotta stay outta the box (obviously)
I'd love a PP , see what we got

Not out of this game at all

I suspect our younger legs get the jump on their older legs in the 3rd, I hope anyway lol

I want the top two lines to stay together on their respective pp units, but I know that's not popular opinion. I imagine PP1 will settle on something like Suzuki, Laine, Demidov, Hutson and Slaf/Caufield.
