You'd think a purgatory team would take a a swing before that. Like the Islanders. But I guess they did grab Eiserman. Boston took a 6'7 guy who projects to be a fourth line echl player.

Probably should have gone in the 20s so 20 or so spots.

Lane was drafted 40-50 spots too late.

Eiserman and Iggy were two I was very high on (after Demidov). Eiserman is going to make a lot of scouts look bad IMO. A guy with size and has great goal scoring ability. Come on man.

When our second first rounder was approaching, I was like Eiserman or Hage. And we got one of them. Played out well for us.

Right now he’s a better 1OVR than Slaf, so maybe 61 spots too late. Lol

Eiserman is a gamer too, he is extremely passionate. When I saw him slipping , not gonna lie I was hoping we were going to take him but then he was picked and we got Hage who is someone k wanted as well but with Eiserman slipping it was looking too good.

@Lafleurs Guy would’ve burst in excitement with Eiserman.

We got our assistman. And we got our sniper.

Nchallah they'll play together.

Nchallah they'll score goals together.

And nchallah they'll win together.

Can't wait for this moment!

Caufield fell in the draft because of size concerns

Eiserman fell in the draft because he had a knock against him for poor work ethic

Eiserman fell in the draft because he had a knock against him for poor work ethic

Work ethic and passion/gaming are not entirely correlated.

He’s a passionate and emotional guy, when he wants to make an impact he buckles down and finds a way to get involved in the games. The key is to be more consistent.

Eiserman also stated pre draft (immaturely I might add), “I don’t care about anything else except scoring goals”, apparently said it in the few interviews he also had at the draft - note “few interviews” as many teams were turned off by his attitude & didn’t even bother interviewing him

If any org can turn his attitude around, it would be an Uncle Lou led one, we’ll see I have my serious doubts. NYI seem to have swapped Wahlstrom w Eiserman

We've seen it a million times, guys who have NHL level shots at lower levels just can't translate it in the NHL, usually because even though the shot is heavy and accurate it just takes too long to get off. Andrei Kostitsyn was like that for us, he had an absolute laser of a shot, but it was just too slow to be an effective weapon at the NHL level. Whereas a guy like Caufield it's often on and off his stick in a blink of an eye, or comes quickly from an unexpected location that by the time the goalies realize a shot is being taken the puck is already coming at them.

From what I remember reading about Eiserman is that he was super quick with his shot, so I expect it will translate in the NHL. So it's more a question of the rest of his game that might be a problem for him. My feeling is that his career will be defined by whether he buys into the right way to win or not, so if there's a good leadership group that work with him and that he respects and believes in then the sky's the limit. But the wrong fit and he'll end up in the Hoffman category where he helps and hurts you win equally.

Eiserman has been mentored by the guru Dr Shot (Glen Tucker) from a young age. Glen works with NHLers Pastrnak, Bergeron, Chara, Coyle, Eichel, he’s been working w Slaf - his philosophy is snap / wrist shot, quick accurate techniques that focuses on the stick flex doing the work. He consults exclusively w CCM & Sherwood on stick designs / weighting

But as Hutson proves it’s all about elite drive + elite hockey IQ or as MSL once said “I just kept finding areas of my game that needed improving & kept working on it while others didn’t… there was no special talent I had”

Or they are smarter than you and know that it's hard for those flashy smaller defensmen in the playoff ?
Buddy... We are not talking about drafting Cole Hutson in the top 10. We are talking about taking a chance in late first round. What do you have to lose when you draft from 25-30.

Is it his fault he was getting very high usage when he should have been in a secondary spot like he is now? I have faith in guys like Matheson who work very hard at improving. We have to take time to notice it because it's kind of deflating for Matheson to improve but then still have a fair amount of Habs fans on his back all the time waiting for his next mistake.
He was in the wrong chair. I said so long ago. But that doesn't excuse the unforced errors. He made really boneheaded decisions. That's just a fact.

He's a 2nd pairing guy who we over relied on because we had no alternatives. That's true. But let's not sugarcoat the fact that he made some really brutal unforced errors.

I'd have loved to have gotten Eiserman just because of the goal scoring talent. But once we got Demidov it kind of made getting him a little redundant. Eiserman may well go on to be better than Hage but I think Hage gives us a dimension we needed more - an offensive center. Assuming Demidov is a winger, we already have Slaf, CC, Demidov... and then we went out and added Laine.

As scary as it is to say now, we can score goals. Caufield can play the role of Eiserman already. Eiserman's a pure sniper but a one dimensional player. I think any team should be thrilled at getting that kind of scorer but we've already got that and it would've made him a little redundant.

Eiserman may well go on to become a superstar. But I think Hage at the very least addresses a need better than CE does. And Eiserman was gone before we could take him anyways so I'm not upset about it. I think that will be another great draft for us.

Well said man, draft couldn’t have went better for us or so it appears right now.

Both Hutson brothers are small and not super fast in a straight line, though Cole seems faster at the same age.

Most teams still put a lot of weight on a player's downside, hence why someone like Charlie Stramel will always be at a premium at the draft despite showing little upside compared to peers.

Cause you have to really know the game to analyse the IQ of a player.

..and you can be dumb as a rock to look at the speed and the size of a player.

In 1976, a.lot of people sais that Gretzky will never make it cause he was too skinny......the best IQ in history..

Yeah, I mean... could you imagine if we'd added a guy like Eiserman ten years ago? THEN I'd be all over getting him. We've needed a sniper for so, so long. Starved for it.

Now? We actually have a lot of that. We can always use more - every team can - but I think we have a bigger need at center. And Eiserman (as much as I love goalscorers) didn't do much else.

So, BPA? I don't know man. As I've always said here, I don't follow these younger players the way many of you do. So my opinions aren't as strong on that front. I can only go by the profiles and what I've read. And based on everything I've seen, Hage should be a really good player and he fits the need.

If we hadn't of gotten Demidov, then maybe I'd have had a different opinion. But as much as I loved the idea of adding that kind of sniper, I think we'll actually be better off with a guy like Hage to help us up the middle.

Don't understand how they can see Hutson kill the NCAA and let his brother fall too.
We're just as guilty. It was great to use the 2nd to move up and take Hage. But we should have also gotten an early 2nd and taken Cole.

You can blame Bergevin, you have one guess where that 2nd went.

Getting Hage is more important than having two Hutsons.
I'm still waiting to see Dvo on the wing with offensive players so he can produce and we can recoup some of those assets!!! But it seems he'll continue to be a 4c with low production and no trade value. At least he's playing a role and we're a playoff team on the rise! We'll see where this goes...

I agree with the overall comment but completely disagree with the Kostitsyn comparison, he could snap it in a millisecond, KK however always had a solid shot but took so long to unleash it and didn’t have the skating ability and elusiveness to put himself in a position to shoot, he never was a pure scorer but I find he better fits what you’re describing than Andrei

Why are we talking about Eiserman again?

I still remember people believing that Kaliyev was the steal of the draft because of his goal scoring ability. Now he was just claimed off waiver.

Same situation happened with Oliver Wahlstrom.

And sometime they can score in the pro but the other part of their game is just lacking like Hoffman.

I will believe in them when they start performing in the NHL and that he is not a liability also.
