It might be time for the hype train to leave the station. As a true freshman, draft +1 player, he's the only players over a point per game on his team 14 points in 11 games. He's scoring goals too. He had a solid wjc for a draft+1 and is really good defensively/as a penalty killer.

He's doing it all after missing almost 2 months hurt and basically playing no games leading up to the world juniors

More in general: Am I understanding/seeing this correctly, that basically all of our top10 prospects are doing good or even fantastic so far and even most of those beyond that are trending upwards? Is there anybody who is utterly disappointing as of now?
I don’t think anyone can say MBN or Danielson are “doing good”. Luckily a lot of our later picks are surpassing expectations.

Someone help me understand the Plante-lovers.

I've only watched his highlights and a few WJ games...haven't seen him at Min-D at all...

But he's not a physical presence, and doesn't look like he's ever going to be. He's not fast enough to be a PK/4th line NHL'er. He doesn't seem to have a great shot, or skill...doesn't seem to have top-6 or even middle-6 NHL offensive skill. And he seems to have some brains and make smart passed...but that's not really enough to make it on a competitive NHL team...

DeBrincat--Larkin--Raymond
2025 1st--Danielson--MBN
Buchelnikov--Kasper--Mazur
Soderblom--Finnie/Lombardi--Kiiskinen/Berggren

Even if we don't add any outside forwards...which we certainly will...he's got quite a bit of competition...

You've only watched highlights and a few games when he was fresh back from injury in the world juniors but you're making conclusions like this? He's not fast, physical, cant PK, doesn't have a shot or skill....

But was somehow good enough to kill penalties for USA at the world juniors, is good enough as a freshman to be the clear best offensive player on his college team and be over a point per game there, good enough to play at the program before college and good enough to be a second round pick. He was good enough to light up the u18s too.

Saying he "makes smart passes" when talking about his passing, when he's talked about as one of the best pasjsers in his draft is certainly a way to phrase that too.

You seem to just be looking for someone to fight with.

I was pretty clear that I hadn't seen much of him.

And that I was asking someone to help me get it.

Is he way faster/stronger/more skilled than he was last yr or something?

...Does someone have a clip of him making a really skilled offensive play...or a nice defensive play? All I ever see...elsewhere and here...is pretty average and uninspiring footage.

I was hoping we get Stiga with that second round, I was wrong. Plante could be the best Yzerman choice in Detroit in the second round
So far, Johansson would be the best 2nd round pick under Yzerman.

I mean you say you havent seen basically any of him, but come in with an extremely negative attitude towards the player despite all the evidence saying otherwise. There's plenty of highlights of him making sick passing plays, he's been an offensive stud everywhere he's played etc.

You say he cant PK but he literally did it at the WJC in his draft+1.

It makes it seem like you're intentionally looking for something bad

Totally agree. Hadn’t seen him play until WJC and thought he looked great. Was very noticeable on the forecheck, which surprised me.

Very smart with the puck on his stick. The only thing he’s lacking right now is an explosive first couple steps, but he can play at pace once moving. He’s also rail skinny, so I’d expect he can improve that with more muscle. Kinda like Lucas Raymond.

A lot of assumptions made with that lineup.

Overall I wouldn't think too hard about where he could fit in this early. Let the kid develop.
