He wasn’t on my radar but the EP draft guide had good things to say about him. Dad was on the mid 90s Sabres.
Great brain, great passer, good skater. Might turn into a top 9 scoring type.

The good thing is we can afford patience with this kid. 3-4 years in college, then the A. He might surprise us.

Reading his write up on the Hockey Writers, feels like a guy who can give you point production on the 3rd line while being a power play specialist. If he's more than that well then that's awesome. Kind of a modern day Jiri Hudler but with better skating of course.

I'm pretty pleased with this pick. Most of our 2nd round selections the past few years have been "meh" or "wtf?". Plus, the kid's heart and head are in the right place; he'll be a Bulldog and not a Jaundiced Gerbil, aka, Minnesota Gopher.

Edit: I am in lock-step with @Carmine Cirella , did this kid present a fake I.D. to become draft eligible?

Some people think Plante is the best passer in the draft. Probably more Hudler than Fil.

Reading the write ups I get PA Parenteau vibes. In a good way.

Yup but what our brass said how he can play up and down the line+PP/PK and praising his passing, his whole package reminds me a lot more of Filppula than Hudler. Both will be fine though.

Just note to all the Wings fans on here who don't watch much NCHC: Minnesota Duluth almost always over-relies on gritty veteran upperclassmen. It will be interesting to see how Plante, a skill passer who doesn't fit the normal UMD mold, will do for the Bulldogs. Will Scott Sandelin give him consistent big minutes right away?

Good catch. My takeaway was how long it took for Draper to decide who to choose. It came down to the wire. Looks like Hakan didn't know. It appears Plante was a split spontaneous decision as time was about to expire.
