Yeah, I think we need to understand that if the Jets are to win in the playoffs it will be because our core group leads the way. Adding depth is good but it won't mean much if Scheifele, JoMo, Helle, KC and Co.dont step up.
The way I view it is that a good mercenary can be the difference maker that wins or loses a game, but won't win or lose you a series. We don't beat the Avs last season even if Monahan were good, because Hellebuyck wasn't and the team as a whole let the games turn into chaos. But Stastny was invaluable in 2018 because he played a big role in multiple games, even if he were nowhere near as important as Scheifele, Wheeler, Byfuglien, or Hellebuyck.

They Isles have determined that they will have to do one of two things. 1) trade Nelson or 2) not trade Nelson
I think this is a tough one for Lou. My guess he would prefer to keep his player and re-sign him over a really late 1st in a week draft and whatever prospect he can squeeze out. If we were in the same position, Chevy would be making a full court press to re-sign Ehlers before moving him for futures.

Game 7 Nashville. That was worth it right there. Stastny was also invaluable to the PP.

Which makes me wonder if the Jets would look at Nelson as the faceoff guy for the PP, and maybe stick him in Ehlers spot.

For sure he would be on the top 2 PK units, which is still a spot that has no answers from our centers.

Utah is in the playoff hunt so extremely unlikely to consider trading Schmaltz. their second leading scorer and a great pairing with Keller.
Utah may be in the hunt, but they're 4 points back of that final wild card spot & 11 points back of the top wild card spot. Further they're competing against the Ducks, Blues, Canucks & Flames for that final wild card spot. Only one of those 4 teams is making it & the Flames, Blues & Canucks have better odds.

Utah's present odds to make the playoffs is 19.3%. In past seasons, teams with better playoffs odds have given up. Their odds will slip further if they lose to Detroit tonight. Even if they go on a tear, odds are they'd play Winnipeg in the first round.

Again not advocating for this trade, It was another's posters suggestion which I commented on, but this the kind of deal that no one seas coming that Chevy often pulls from his hat.

Srs question are leafs fans delusional.. worst cap situation in league... already strapped for draft picks.. think someone will claim reeves on waivers hahaha they think they can pick up a major player.. I think leafs media and fans are the most brain dead ppl on planet.. they don't have any chance of picking up raatanaan or Nelson...

They just signed all their pending UFAs and their GM is on the record as saying they will add.
Utah basketball team is so bad that the chance at a playoff appearance for their owner is probably worth hanging in there.

Maccelli seems to be the only guy there on the trade block. And that's performance.

My choices for a 2C...

Cozens
Nelson
Schenn at 1.5m retained.
ROR
Cozens
Nelson
Schenn

We added a 2C in both 2019 (Kevin Hayes) and 2024 (Sean Monahan) and lost in the 1st round.

Personally I'm more comfortable this year with skipping the 2C trade for a 1st that we often do because we have flamed out in the 1st more often than not.

I'd rather grab 1-2 defencemen that push Stanley at a minimum into the press box.
Neither of those would be what I’d call a 2C.
Hayes didn’t work out at all and I don think Monahan s a 2C for our team.

Toronto will get all 4 with only 2 first round picks in the next 4 years and 700 k in deadline cap space hahaha leafs fans and media the biggest Pejorative Slurs on planet earth
