people getting their news from facebook is the reason the world's gone to hell in a handbasket
What about Pionk?I think the cap is not going to be much of a problem for the Jets going forward, especially if they don't re-sign Iafallo.
I don’t.Anyone else feel like we're in a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't scenario with this deadline?
Risto is nowhere as good as Pionk. If we get Risto, Pionk is gone.Yeah, let's pretend that size doesn't matter. I can see that you've never gone into a corner for a puck battle with a guy much bigger than you
Obviously, better is better than big. But good luck finding a RHD in free agency that fits that description, then getting him to sign here
If it were that easy, Chevy would have upgraded RD years ago
Pionks performance in the playoffs will go a long way to determine what direction Chevy goes with him.. I don't forsee him getting a substantial raise if any really.. he's kind of hit his ceiling already and we probably expect a slight decline as he heads in to his 30s.. for a guy who provides decent production on offense but is by no means a shut down defender.. and a bit shielded playing on the lower pairings against less caliber forwards.. I think 4 -:5 milli range is where he belongs..What about Pionk?
That would be 5.1 for Risto, 4.9 for DD and how much for Pionk?
Too much for the right side when you figure Sammy on the left side is in for a raise.
Also, Salmon needs a spot to play.
Nah, it is easy for me to say no to Risto, especially after watching him play through the years.
avgard II, you are out to lunch if you think Pionk signs anywhere for 4m to 5m.Pionks performance in the playoffs will go a long way to determine what direction Chevy goes with him.. With the cap space freed up from him I would invest in another weapon on offense and plug in someone who has little more size on a cheaper contract to replace him..
Seth jones with chicago eating 27 percent of his salary would of been a great replacement
I Toffoli is a cautionary tale. He seemed like a good upgrade but didn't fit the Jets up-tempo system.
Does BlueSky work as media posts here like Twitter used to? For those who care, here's my take on the Jets trade deadline options this year, with some common names being thrown out there or for ones that WPG should try to pry from the other team.
Also in the thread are some of the "risky" players or players to strictly avoid for one reason or another.
In a magical world, Jets would somehow be able to get Erik Karlsson for this year and next two so they have another defenceman that could add something offensively like Morrissey can but on the right-side. Connor Murphy would be a solid consolation prize as a better fit on the top pair, and DeMelo could slide to the bottom pair to stabilize things a bit there. Hopefully they sneak out with one of those mid 6 forwards too to give them some options of mixing up their top 6 when they need to - someone like Barrett Hayton is the long-term solution (but obviously unlikely), McCann/O'Reilly/Gourde might be short-term upgrades over Namestnikov but carry some risk in another way (mostly the speed factor), but even adding someone like Bjorkstand or Reilly Smith would help a lot.
In the real world, I see WPG probably going after a PKer for both a forward and defenceman - probably a Luke Schenn and Armia, neither of whom would honestly move the needle much for what the Jets really need to improve on (yes, the penalty kill, but more importantly 5v5 offence).
In the "glass-half-empty" world, Jets probably make one move and then announce an expensive Pionk extension which would be just as bad as the last time they overpaid him in a contract year.
That's my pointYeah, I have..and I’ll take Pionk
I’m starting yo think you haven’t watched Risto beyond this season.
You guys are hugely overrating Risto.
Like I said, if think if Chevy has been talking about Risto, then it's because Pionk is either gone or they are so far apart in terms of ask that he doesn't think it will get doneRisto is nowhere as good as Pionk. If we get Risto, Pionk is gone.
How many times have you honestly watched Risto play?
Pionk is a smarter player and I really don't think Risto's shot is anything to worry about. He had quite a few muffins against the Jets.
He likes going for the big hit and leaving himself out of position and is worse than Pionk in his own end.
Nobody can comment on how he would do in the playoffs because he hasn't ever played in the playoffs.
I'd much rather have Johnson than Risto.
I think the jets should model thier game around the panthers.. they need to stick to pushing the play.. forechecking.. create as much chaos in the offensive zone and get as many shots on net while crowding the crease area... lot of thier offensive success been built on winning puck battles.. and taking advantage of loose pucks and lazy clear outs who couldn't handle thier tenacityI look at Toffoli as more of a cautionary tale for the catagory of “scoring forward” rental. The number one scoring team in the NHL doesn’t need to trade for more offense at the expense of defense and get away from our identity. I don’t look at ROR as that type of asset. He certainly plays defense well and with passion. If TNSE are looking for someone to take over that #2 centre spot and we are going to be filling the hole anyways then I would like a guy who can defend first and score more than Names.
If we don’t make any moves to fill that #2 centre spot I am more than fine.
I'm not sure why the Jets need more defense for that line. Jets are tops in the NHL in goals against and that line of Ehlers-Namestnikov-Perfetti has been quite strong defensively. My larger concern is that the Jets' rely a lot on their PP for offense and if the Scheifele line is shut down in the playoffs they won't have enough secondary scoring. If they are looking to strengthen their middle 6 forward lines I think they need to consider adding a forward that can improve the offense either with Ehlers line or perhaps replacing Appleton.I look at Toffoli as more of a cautionary tale for the catagory of “scoring forward” rental. The team has been performing well above expection so far for this season.. we all knew it wasn't sustainable.. can't have the entire offense produce miles above what they normally do... reality is we have the same roster as last season minus dhillon Schmidt toffoli and monohanTotally agree.
What is the point of trading one player to replace a player for basically the same result.
Does a top scoring team need more goal scorers?
Jets window is this year and probably the next two years so you don't want to trade a lot of good assets away the first year for a rental. I can't see Chevy making a big trade unless its term and the player going out is not re-signing with the team.
Jets need toughest and depth incase of injuries so hopefully Chevy can get a couple that only cost a 3rd or lower or 2026 pick for a rental.

I'm jokingpeople getting their news from facebook is the reason the world's gone to hell in a handbasket
jets news probably fine though
I think this gives him Chance to play for something when it matters most.. sure he has a cup but during the latter part of guys career that's mostly what thier playing for.. spending 2 years in wpg doesn't mean he needs to uproot his family from where ever thier living.. this isn't a long term commitment.. cpl months this season and 2 more after..The point remains that no-one has yet to give a reason why O'Reilly would want to come here for a number of years to finish his career. The guy has his cup and likely is fine staying in Nashville over coming here.
