I understand that it's a business and he has no trade protection, but would Chevy really trade for him if he was coming here reluctantly, especially with a year of term left?

Very good question.

Ironically enough, that's the only rumored offer we've heard so far on the table (that I can recall) where Chevy offered a 2nd rounder.

All likely just leaked by Philly to hopefully drive up the price and squeak out a 1st, but still.

Guess it comes down to if Laughton wants to play winning hockey and chase a Cup.

It could very well be Slim Pickens at the deadline looking for the right fit.

Utah and St. Louis are suddenly right in the race in the West. And Vancouver and Calgary don't look good.

Detroit, Columbus, Rangers, Sens are definitely in the Eastern battle.

That's 20 teams still in the playoff race.

Anaheim picking up Husso is probably a sign they will drop out.

But of the 12 teams that are out of it, how many guys are available with no trade protection? Everyone on the Kraken has a NTC. Nelson, Dumoulin, etc.

And teams in the East haven't moved at all yet.

I'm not a big fan of Schenn who I feel is just to slow skater to keep up, and sounds like bc of term & name would be much more expensive then a guy like Laughton. Laughton isn't a sexy star by any means but would be a great leader, bottom six guy who can move up in case of injuries

I say just give these guys a chance. Lowry and whoever the "2C" is are going to play equal ice time. Especially at home where Lowry will get top dog matchups. People should be more concerned with Mason Appleton matching up against team's best lines, best d-pairings than who is going to play with Ehlers and succeed because figuring out how to play on the same line as Ehlers isn't easy. Give Namestnikov some credit there.

Give me Lowry-Laughton for d-zone matchups. Maybe with Iafallo who was throwing some good sauce up there, and drop the 3rd line wingers to the 4th line.

And then readjust wherever you have to.

I don't think it would be the end of the world if we did run this out, and it could certainly work. I just think if you can find something to improve the team you do it. We also found out last year disrupting and trying to improve the team doesn't always work out.

Schenn is actually above average in speed.

3 more games till the deadline, Jets actually play the night of the deadline. Maybe we start to see some smoke over the weekend. I would like to see some more of our UFA's extended before the deadline at least the one the Jets want to keep. Have a feeling the most important one of them is talking a walk.

Except the Jets early season success was buoyed by the checking line scoring at a much higher rate than the 2nd line. Since Christmas it seems like the 2 lines have reversed. And I think trends would be more indicative than the sum of production going towards the deadline?

Nino does concern me as being one of the slower skaters. But I don't have the analytics either to prove that Appleton is killing offense lately, it just seems that way from the eye test.

There really isn't. It was only raised because Murat used him as a player that would be a great fit for the Jets. And that was when Calgary was struggling I think, and before they came out and said they weren't moving those guys (not that they should anyway).

I never said he was dead slow, I just don't think he is fast enough skater to keep up with our top 6. The roles expected from Laughton and Schenn are very different, so the expectation should be also. I would hard pass on Schenn for any top six role & hes to expensive for a bottom six role. , Laughton if we got him for a 2nd for our bottom six would be a nice add.
