In the off season (no matter how the season turns out), here is a statistic for the team to consider:

If you exclude the 5 guys up front that I would keep (yeh, bias for sure): Mc-D, Drai, Hyman, Savoie and Podz (someone has to fight) then the average age for the remaining forwards is right around 34 years of age. That is a fact that must be addressed. No matter how you slice it, that's an old group of forwards.

I'm not sure this is entirely true, even with no cap space they have the picks to make moves for some cheaper players, sending back the same salary. Even if it means sending a roster player back, it's not like many of those guys have term.

The bare minimum is changing up the mix up front.

For a year that our management decided to accrue cap space we don’t really have much draft capital to spend. Just go get a goalie and this team should be a contender.

I think you're gonna have to give Anaheim what they want for Gibson, though their bargaining position may have taken a little hit with his apparently minor injury, so that might help us as a buyer.

It's either that or Binnington with Skinner going out entirely to St. Louis.

Maybe Saros or gulp Sorokin (are the Islanders willing to make a move? This deal would almost definitely have to involve Bouchard for Dobson on top of that).

There's no way you can continue with this tandem, all other things aside I think the team is giving up on them because they don't get enough big saves and once you lose buy in and belief the rest of the wheels start falling off fast.

Skinner needed to have a really good season cementing himself as a bonafied starter who can come up with some big time saves and win a game here or there for the team after last season's experience, he has failed. His numbers against top teams is atrocious, the team can't have any confidence in a playoff round against any of the better teams.

I kinda hope the resolution to the Kane situation isn't just him being traded when his NMC turns into a 16 team list. Ideally, LTIR until playoffs. Who knows how effective he will be, but I'd rather gamble on Kane, than Arvidsson remembering he is a hockey player and not out there to make snow angels.

I'd rather move both of them in separate deals. That cap space opens a lot of opportunity to get younger and faster.

I don't think that Kane's style of game compliments the system that Knoblauch is trying to execute.

They have moveable prospects also. Our assets aren't dire, but our future pipeline is if that makes sense.

It looks like for certain a middle 6 forward will be added and a depth/#5/6 Defensemen.

I was told the Oilers are looking to change the chemistry/character of their group in an impactful way and have internally talked about ROR from Nashville. Who else fits the bill?

What I now believe to be 100 percent true is there will be more significant changes to the team. Pressure is on now and we have the cap space. In other words we aren't just adding Drew O'Connor and a Left handed Stetcher. This should be really good news to us.

ROR would be interesting if we sent them Henrique and a pick back.

For all the bitching about Arvidsson I was curious how he was performing compared to the other $4M forwards in pts per game.

4. Dawson Mercer= 0.42 Pts/GP (1st RFA contract)

6. Robby Fabbri= 0.37 Pts/GP
7. Ryan Hartman= 0.35 Pts/GP
8. Alex Iafallo= 0.33 Pts/GP
9. David Perron= 0.2 Pts/GP


So the only one who is way outperforming his contract is P. Kane who is an obvious HOFer and signed a sweetheart deal with Detroit. I think this fanbase has an inflated sense of what $4M gets you these days cause of the prior performances of our $5M-ish guys, who way outperformed their contracts (atleast initially).
