Wasn't Toews dealing with some major long covid complications? I'm not even sure he is capable of playing in the NHL, nevermind being someone's 2c.

I'd love to have him here in 13th F role, but I'm guessing his camp doesn't even consider that. It would be a huge W for the organization and a revenue generator.

Agreed. The hypothetical proposals need to take more things into account. Although some people seem fine to only ever look 1 step ahead.

Personally while it would fit a nice need, I consider his contract to be pretty poor value ATM.

Dreaming of Barzal is nice and all and he would really help the Jets, the cost would be steep but he is not coming here

He might very well be tired of losing and see value in going to a perennial playoff team with cup aspirations and the core signed long term instead of a team on the cusp of or straight up rebuilding.

toews probably only signs with a contender, why else come back if it's not for a PO/cup push?

a contender probably has 9+ fwds better than him already, who knows if he can even handle top-6 time.

imo, the Jets are a contender, he'd be a bottom6 guy here ~10m/night with some PK opportunity, maybe PP2. I think that's a desirable role from his POV.

The Athletic has some contract projections up today for all our UFA/RFAs.

Samberg is 4 x $4.1m
Pionk is 5 x $7.8m
Ehlers is 5 x $8.4m
Vilardi is 4 x $7.1m

Term is generally too short, but the AAV isn't bad for 3 of 4 of them. Hard pass on Pionk for me.

I would pay Samberg more to get more term.

No way I go that far for Pionk.

Ehlers is probably about right but he might get more if he goes to market - depending on his play the rest of the way.

I would like more term from Vilardi too.

If we keep Perfetti and Ehlers walks is our top 6 better than it would be if we swapped Perfetti and Barzal? In this hypothetical Ehlers walks either way. Barzal does more for our top 6 than Perfetti does so including Perfetti in the package should not be a problem.

Yeah, that makes it possible, but only just. There would be a lot of teams bidding for him. They would all need to find ways to fit his contract. Just watch F**k Vegas LTIR Stone again and he ends up there.

Good question. He seems pretty happy here. Not to mention that LA is on fire right now. He could still spend off-seasons there.
