Do you think the Jets could get Guhle out of Montreal for Ehlers?

I'd think Montreal would want an Ehlers extension to pull that trigger.
Plus, Guhle is a left shot.
But he is definitely a player I'd say the Jets would have interest in.

It’s always piss and moan about these good AHLers and then they leave and the Jets are proven to to have correctly evaluated them and the board moves on to the next tweeter ignoring their record Vs the Jets when it comes to player evaluation.

That said, Heinola is still being evaluated by the Jets. He hasn’t been good but they will keep trotting him out. He will still get more chances to figure it out. Hopefully he does. But he has to do it.

It's not about Ville being amazing, it's about all these better dmen being pushed aside for Stanley who is just not a good defenseman at the NHL level. And it's still ongoing.

About a week ago I was pushing the idea of trying to acquire Cozens as I think he still can be that potential #1 center he was drafted to be. It is easy to get pulled down by the disfunction in Buffalo. He has size, skill and speed which is the combination you need. Saying that he wouldn't come cheap and Buffalo would likely want young players in return. Maybe you look at including Perfetti in a deal? Not sure if that interests Buffalo.

Commented in the last GDT, but 0 chance I'd move Perfetti for Cozens. That's a loss for the Jets IMO.

For Cozens? I don't think perfetti is all that but that's a huge trade for cozens who has been trending down.

I like his upside and he has a 30g 68 pt season under his belt, but his value is right now. That's a top tier price.

Probably because Villie is the 6th best 6ft, sub 200lbs defenseman under contract and what he is good at isn’t a need for the team. If the team was in need of a PP specialist he would be playing.

It’s obvious with Fleury stepping into the 2nd pair when Samberg went down the reason he was scratched earlier in the season isn’t because the Jets think either Stanley or Villie are better than him. They are playing to develop the potential. Right now the need is size and defense. Villie is getting ripped to shreds 5 on 5.

Its funny how this board talks so much about giving guys a chance and then when they do give guys a chance it’s becomes “well not that guy”.

We don't need Stanley or Heinola. Heinola is still recovering from surgery, so they're being really generous with him. And, we have strange composition of D right now. DeMelo is slipping, Samberg is injured and him and Fluery are our best 2 LD behind Josh. Our RD is an issue, Pionk might not be signing, and do we want him?

We need a RD big time. Now that Coghlan cleared, I'd be giving him a few games to see if he fits.

I'd also be giving chib a look on the 4th line, maybe he can add some finish.

Without secondary scoring and weak RD, we're not going far.

And only averages 50 points a year. Less than Perfetti.

Do you think he gave the Jets a better chance to win than Dillon? Play him over Samberg on the bottom pair? Maybe it’s just me but I think Samberg has worked out pretty good. Chisholm is probably better than Ville. Should he have been kept over Ville? I don’t think that’s the point people are trying to make….but they are. We should have held on to Kovacevic until his value was a sky high 4th round pick in his D+10. Should the Jets hold on to every single player they draft just in case they turn into a real bottom pair defenseman in their late 20s? What are we doing here?

Ville isn’t better than Stanley. On top of that if Stanley can tap into some of his potential it’s much more valuable to the Jets needs than Heinola’s potential.

How does Heinola contribute to winning this year? He is supposed to be an offensive player but he isn’t good enough to play on the PP. He doesn’t PK. He’s hasn’t been good 5 on 5. What is he going to do in the playoffs when the whistles go away and it’s time to play big boy hockey? Right now we are still looking to see what he can bring to the table to establish some sort of role on the team.

He is still getting opportunities, the team hasn’t given up on him but one of these days it’s on him to figure it out. That’s on him. So far all I have seen is people suggesting to throw him in the deep end and if he sinks just keep waiting while we blame the coach and his defense partners and the forward lines he plays with etc etc etc. The whole Heinola conversation is just another example of putting their pet players above the team.

Cozens is a 60 plus point player in between Perfetti and Ehlers.
He has good size, not afraid to drop the gloves and is a good playmaker.

He is being misused by being played on the right side. That alone is enough. No way to start a rookie. Make Stanley play the right side if you must pair them. He is the vet player.

Stan wasn’t our worst d last two games. Impossible to upgrade there plus on Demelo and pionk.

Jets have 5 defensemen signed for next season. Samberg is probably going to be re-signed long term. From the way Arniel talks about Pionk as well liked in the room, wouldn't surprise me if he re-signs. For Fleury this has been a good opportunity for him in a new environment, with a familiar coach. Wouldn't be surprised if he re-signs.

And all 8 defensemen who have helped get the Jets to the spot they are in this year, somewhere around 1st overall are back next year. Heinola is getting some looks but he is mostly a spare part right now, I think the Jets want to see what he can do. By next season if Salomonsson is ready, his spot is likely the most tenous But I think there's still hope that he can put it together. Missing TC was a real setback for him.

Only saw a Morrissey-Heinola pairing once last game, but that's his ceiling on the right side, especially in offensive zone situations. In a shut down role De Melo is going to be in that spot.

That's why I don't think there is going to be a big splash here. The Jets love to build chemsitry by not making a lot of changes.

I think they'll add at defense but not go for the home run.

Ehlers is the most tradeable asset they have, I just wonder how Chevy handles that one. His value is prospects as a rental, only a team that could re-sign him would give up core pieces. Seeing Perfetti look comfortable in the bumper after a few games, and Chibrikov coming up the ranks, maybe they keep Ehlers as an own rental knowing they have replacements. It's a risky move, and Ehlers has never been great in the playoffs. But I think there is a player there that puts a few more fans in the seats, and the organization may want that going down the stretch in what hasn't been a great year for attendance. Which is funny because I think a lot of complaining comes from fans that don't actually support the team.

Interesting tidbit about the Jets payroll. De Melo makes more than Josh in 2 of the next 3 seasons. Only $4.8 million in actual salary for Morrissey for the next 3 years. Guy left a lot on the table for management to work with.
