I feel like I may have heard this before.we really need a center to fix that 2nd line
My wife is Celiac - and I can assure you - our GF options are pretty shitty out there in our province....We have Gluten Free in Manitoba too.
but, even if he just reaches that, having him under team control, while Weegar ages out of his prime is still worth something.I think you guys are way to high on Salo he absolutely has the potential to be a top pair guy sure but he's 20 in his first year in North America. His best case scenario is probably to become as good as Weager. If he exceeds that well that's awesome but I certainly wouldn't be counting on that.
Not disagreeing with the sentiment, but in the context of a really hypothetical situation where Weegar was available (the Flames likely need Anderson re-signed or decide to tear it down), IMO from the Jets point of view the idea would be to replace Pionks salary with Weegars (not likely looking at extending Pionk if we add Weegar), and having Salo on an ELC along with Miller on a cheap deal is a big key to making it happen.I think you guys are way to high on Salo he absolutely has the potential to be a top pair guy sure but he's 20 in his first year in North America. The Jets have been a sub 500 team in the last 14 or 15. Our winning % is high for now, but it's not lately. We have a good team, by no means would I say the best in the league, but we'll know in about 48 more games. This is what I don't get. They are the best team in the league. Stanley has played in 21 of 33 games. Jets are 15-5-1 with him in the lineup. You can say that is because of all the other players, Helly, Morrissey, Scheifele, etc, and it's true. But if Stanley had such an overwhelming defecit, the Jets wouldn't be so good with him in the lineup.
One way to negate some of his defecits is by having Adam Lowry out there with him, who is a positive impact player. Negates defensive zone breakdowns.
I think the jacket he got against Boston was an example of how his teammates feel about him, and that's big, knowing you have somebody out there who has your back, and if you take him off the ice it isn't going to affect the performance of the team in any significant way.
I honestly think the dressing room likes the guy, which is what a team is made of. While you can make a team succesful out of converging personalities like Wheeler/Laine, Buff/Trouba, this team is different. I think from the outside they are still largely seen as fragile, soft, in the post Buff era. Probably softer post Dillon.
I am probably, like you, hoping for Stan not to be a starter in the playoffs, but for now at the least, any defecits he has seem to be mitigated by other players contributing.
creating a sport for Samberg, who was a 3rd pair. Let's see how Samberg does for the rest of the seasonI'm not really advocating keeping Dillon. I was not unhappy seeing him go. I think it was creating a spot for Heinola. That hasn't happened, for whatever reasons.
I was thinking the exact same thing lol, but for different reasonsPhew Coghlan cleared.
One less victim of the Stanley parable.
Probably because Villie is the 6th best 6ft, sub 200lbs defenseman under contract and what he is good at isn’t a need for the team. If the team was in need of a PP specialist he would be playing.I'm not really advocating keeping Dillon. I was not unhappy seeing him go. I think it was creating a spot for Heinola. I think you are right about the value of Salo and agree he wouldn't be going anywhere
That said, the way I am looking at it isn't Weegar replacing Salo, it's Weegar replacing Pionk.
Weegar is just as good offensively as Pionk but is much better in transition and his own end. And for the same cap hit.
In this pipe dream we are bringing Weegar in, we would be bringing in a guy who is probably a $7M value dman getting paid $6M. That would be replacing a $3M value dman getting paid $6M. That ~$4M of on ice value is pretty significant when evaluating the value we would be willing to part with I think.

It’s obvious with Fleury stepping into the 2nd pair when Samberg went down the reason he was scratched earlier in the season isn’t because the Jets think either Stanley or Villie are better than him. They are playing to develop the potential. Right now the need is size and defense. Villie is getting ripped to shreds 5 on 5.
Its funny how this board talks so much about giving guys a chance and then when they do give guys a chance it’s becomes “well not that guy”.
The Jets can't risk moving Salo. We haven't had a legit homegrown top 4 RHD since Trouba. Salo has the size and skill set to be a difference maker and the Jets need to let that play out. Maybe he doesn't get there, but if he does that is how contenders are built.I think you guys are way to high on Salo he absolutely has the potential to be a top pair guy sure but he's 20 in his first year in North America. It might be a longshot for Salomonsson to equal Weegar's level, but Weegar didn't really blossom until he was 25 years old, and cashed in for UFA years. Salomonsson has the potential to achieve Samberg type of impact on an ELC. That is a huge value, in addition to the long runway he has.I think you guys are way to high on Salo he absolutely has the potential to be a top pair guy sure but he's 20 in his first year in North America. About a week ago I was pushing the idea of trying to acquire Cozens as I think he still can be that potential #1 center he was drafted to be. It is easy to get pulled down by the disfunction in Buffalo. He has size, skill and speed which is the combination you need. Saying that he wouldn't come cheap and Buffalo would likely want young players in return. Maybe you look at including Perfetti in a deal? Not sure if that interests Buffalo. Here's hoping this was all a rouse to showcase Stan and move him in a package for 2c. I'd take a flyer on Dylan Cousins at 23 years old. Kids always seemed to have a good attitude and TN values that
I think there's something to be said about Stanley's "kid-glove" treatment vs. Heinola's "sink-or-swim-you-tiny-f**king-Finn" theory of player development.Probably because Villie is the 6th best 6ft, sub 200lbs defenseman under contract and what he is good at isn’t a need for the team. It will be interesting to see what the cost is, but it looks like the Sabres are yet again going to bail on a top 10 pick on their never ending rebuild. If your looking at Cozens you probably have to start with Lambert and add from there. As for Weegar he is exactly the D man you are looking for to team up with Joshua and give some backbone to the D
What a mess props to the fans that continue to show up and support that dumpster fire of an organization. It will be interesting to see what the cost is, but it looks like the Sabres are yet again going to bail on a top 10 pick on their never ending rebuild.
It is part of the reason I think Cozens is salvageable and could be the answer to our #2 center position. The cost is a good question. I have a hard time coming up with what might be a good/fair offer from the Jets. What a mess props to the fans that continue to show up and support that dumpster fire of an organization.
If it's an overpay I'm okay with that, this team needs a 2C badly especially for the playoffs.
