If a type of player doesn’t age well it’s got to be Lowrt and everything he does to his body.
You never really know how well an athlete conditions themselves. His dad scored 18 goals at 35 in the old NHL. I think Adam could play for another 5 years at a competitive rate. I'd be concerned with an 8 year contract with Ehlers, because once the Fly is a step slower, he can get squashed. A skilled guy like Datsyuk took a lot of hits at the end of his career because he lost a step.

Lowry is 2 years away from UFA. That's a long time when you play like him at 32. They'll resign him if he hasn't fallen off a cliff, but it might not be until well into 2025-26 season. Probably 3x$4m at most.

Connor is also 2 years away from UFA. But both can renegotiate in the offseason and that would proably be the 2nd layer behind Scheife and Hellebuyck. I think you are discounting Lowry, he's the #1 matchup centre, home ice advantage, was that Point and Kucherov he was shutting down yesterday? Crosby. Mc David. He gets all those matchups. And wins more than he loses. He's not a bargain player. A big part of the Jets identity is him and Scheifele, two powerful centres. Ehlers gets the easier matchups because of Lowry. And his linemates.

That's a tough one. I know these boards are offense oriented, but I think the Jets would be a non playoff team without Lowry.

How much would you offer Lowry then? It's a long ways away anyways, a lot can change in 2 years

I'm definitely discounting 35-38 year-old Lowry. Love 32 and 33 year-old Lowry that we have under contract.

I think you just go with maybe a 2-3 year contract take him to 35/36. Worst case is his skating takes even more of a hit but he can still be a capable 4th liner towards the end. The trouble does become what he gets paid but his value in the room is also worth something.

I think Connor and Lowry are the priorities this offseason. Lowry should get rewarded for everything he brings to the table, and the identity he creates for the team. Samberg definitely should get a good contract, if the Jets want to keep him long term. Ehlers could be a tough one because I can see him getting top billing somewhere else that he can't get here. And it will be interesting to see how Yager, Lambert and Chibrikov develop in the next year.

The rest, I think the season and playoffs have some weight on their future.
Good point about Lowry coming up.

Guys, I don't think the Buff coming out of retirement dream is alive

I would offer Lowry 4 X $5.25M AAV, less than what Copp got, but a reward for all the years of service, and what has been a Selke type season to date.. He'll be 33 when he hits free agency, that's the tricky part. I think he is part of the core with Scheif, Connor, Morrissey, Helly.

I don't see a replacement in house for him. It's possible that Jacob Julien is that player, but he could be a winger too, replacement for Morgan Barron.

My own feelings is that Lowry could keep going at a pretty high level until 37. I look at Patrice Bergeron still being effective at that age. There's guys like Kopitar who seem to be able to age well. I'd like to see Adam retire a Jet.

But it is a crapshoot. I understand your point.

I would still like to see the Jets get a player like Tanner Jeannot or Trent Fredrick . I think the forwards we currently have are great. The proof is in the pudding. I worry about as the season goes and teams start to play them more physical. The Jets can’t afford to have Lowry making sure teams are not taking liberties with our more skilled players. I just don’t know who I would remove in place of one of these guys. Neither would be considered to be meatheads as they have both shown to be good players in the past.

Agree, but not if Jeannot costs a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th Like the Lightning gave up for him. That remains insane.

So what do you think we are going to do with Heinola ?
Waiver exempt , injury prone is his trade value anything at this point?
not shitting on him just honestly wondering where he fits

My guess is he goes on a conditioning stint for a couple of weeks and then is brought up. But he may have to wait for an injury to get in. I doubt he has a lot of value atm but a team .ay take a chance on him as a deadline add.

Good question, but Heinola is no longer waiver exempt. Though if he is willing he can be assigned to the Moose for a conditioning stint. I think they give him some games to see what they got in him. I see the season playing out with us carrying 8 D, with Coghlan waived if we are fully healthy.

They don't have the roster space. What cost do you pay and who do you waive to make room?

I think it is too early in the season to make any decisions. It's a luxury to have a skilled guy who could potentially step up in the event of a Morrissey or Pionk injury on the roster, so that Salomonsson can grow this year in the A.

He seems to be in a position Stanley was once in. Young player waiting it out, with better players and veterans ahead of him.

Hard to see Stanley sitting for Heinola, the need for puck movement is probably less of a need with the team firing on all cylinders. And Heinola is a total unproven on the PK.

But if the Jets keep winning, he might get in if Arny wants to manage the load/wear and tear of his stars.

Trading him seems quite possible as the Jets could at least get a return on him. A Cap strapped team like Florida who is using Uvis Balinskis as their top PP QB comes to mind.
