Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

so friedman reported last night the rangers were open for business if only that included fox who doesn't have trade protection until next year

But of a generalization here but I really feel like with where this team is at Chevy needs to take a risk, something not exactly his forte. A player who's had a few down years, maybe someone who's viewed as overpaid. Or a prospect that hasn't quite planned out. They kind of did that with Monny last year but as a upcoming UFA that experiment had a pretty limited timeline. With limited tradable assets and a very good but maybe not quite there core I think he's gotta take a home run swing, it may fall flat but I think that's a risk at this point they have to take.

If Mika Zibinijad waived, that would kind of be what you just described. Over 8mil until he's 36 and having a rough year so far.

Not quite, the article was the team's writer comes up with a target and the target player's team suggests a trade. Murat concluded the Jets were likely to keep Lambert in that case.
Weegar is a fantastic defender, the problem for the Jets is he does a lot of the same things that Morrissey already does, and to a much lesser extent Pionk. You could run a Snerg Weegar / Morrissey Demelo top 4 that might be pretty dam good. But if Ehlers leaves and you've moved Lambert you don't have a ton of options left in the top 6. Plus I think it would take a lot more than Lambert to get him.

The more and more I think about it I think the obvious guy out is Perfetti if they had Ehlers signed it think it may have happened already.

If Jets didn't want to trade Roslovic for Weegar I can't imagine them wanting to trade Lambert at this stage.

Adding Weegar would be cool. But it would likely mean Pionk is walking to UFA, and I wonder if the cost of acquiring Weegar is worth it for the upgrade.

Full NTC. Signed until 2031. Calgary wouldn't be trading him anyways. They are in the thick of the race.

Rasmus Andersson is the more likely trade candidate, with only two years left, if Calgary falls back in the race, and he's got a 6 team NTC, which probably puts Winnipeg out of that race too.

This is where Chevy gets dumped on, but there is a lot less options being GM in this market than any other. Name a good defenseman, and if he's got any kind of NTC Winnipeg is probably on it. It's why the team is built in the offseason.

id love weegar, but don't see the Flames trading out of him. i think Andersson as mentioned above is the first candidate if they fall out of the PO race. Weegar would seem a bit more like an off-season move if they do want to trade him. Calgary is a bit ahead of schedule imo, since nov of 2023: traded out of their their top line C, starting goalie, top-6 W, 3 x top-4 caliber Dmen... i don't think they were expecting to be this good.

I don't think the Flames are moving him for Lambert. But a package of DeMelo, Prospect and pick might get him. Is he the guy though?

I would just assume have Morrissey Pionk, Samberg Coghlan, Heinla or Fluerty Miller

Weegar would be a great add and someone I just mentioned the other day. Can't see the Flames moving him though, for sure not if they don't re-sign Andersson.

That being said, moving Lambert for him would be tough. IMO, I wouldn't move futures like that until I know what is happening with Ehlers.

Here's my dman target list - all of which I think could be 'available'
1. Matheson
2. Walman
3. Valimaki
I was touting Matheson early in the year, but every time I see a a player with any kind of NTC I feel like they have so they don't get sent to Winnipeg.

My number one would be Maata still, only because I think he could play top pairing with Josh or bottom pairing with Miller, and be the right fit in either position. And cost less.

But Utah is only 2 points back of the Canucks and Flames now, and they get Marino back in January probably. Durzi migh not make it back untiil the playoffs. I feel like the NHL head office would love to see another first year team make the playoffs, so they can make a splash about Utah, the horse with no name.

Walman or Mario Ferraro off the Sharks would be impact players, but with all those guys the cost of a 2nd contract year probably ups their cost at the deadline.

Just for funsies, let's say the deal is on the table

Who goes? Pionk or Demelo?. What assests could you re-coup with the one you move?

I'd also say that making that deal probably assumes that Ehlers re-signs and I have no idea how the cap works with all that.
DD to the Sabres with Apples and a 1st for Cozens.
Sabres really need RHD.

I don't think they touch that, unfortunately
I'd add.
Perfetti Cozens Ehlers would be a nice second line and he would bring the size that it needs.
DD, Barlow, Apples and a 2026 2nd.
No Barlow or Lambert but the D corps and forward corps have vastly improved.

JMo- Weegar
Sammy- Pionk
Fleury/Heinola- Miller

Dylan Larkin may be a good solution for a 2nd line center. 28yr Center with 6 years left on his contract?

Murat's proposed trade in the Athletic is Lambert for Weegar. Jets really do need another bona fide top 4 D or I think they face another round 1 exit.
That's not bad. Weeger is a big catch.

How about Dylan Larkin! He wants of of Detroit. 6 years left on his contract.

Maybe Helle can whisper in his ear...lol

Niedderreiter needs to do the same thing to Roman Josi.

So are you saying more Morrissey is bad?
