This is a great post. Spending your time complaining about losing a player on waivers a couple years in the past is just silly and a waste of time. All teams get their hands forced from time to time by the 23 man roster limit and have no choice but put a player on waivers to be roster compliant. The choice of players is based on a range of criteria including team depth at a position and sometimes that player put on waivers develops after the fact into a better player. And as you point out it happens to every team. Overall waiver rules are very player friendly as they give a player a chance to develop and prove themselves elsewhere instead of being berried in an organization and never getting that chance to become the player they are. So be happy for the player, who otherwise may never had the chance to become the player they are now, if it weren't for waiver rules.
We are playing unbelievable so we need something to bitch about. Bet we would be 15-0 not 14-1 If we kept Kovacevic .

The way the Moose are playing, Kahkonen would be a help, and you want a legit #3 goalie in your system. The fact Di Vincentiis has played better than Milic, I wonder if Milic wouldn't be going to the ECHL if the Jets did reclaim him.

I'd say goaltending is far down the list of issues with the Moose. They can't score to save their lives.

I would make sense to claim him and send him to the Moose. Are they really comfortable with Milic being the backup if one of the goalies with the Jets gets hurt? One of the Moose younger goalies could then play as a starter in the ECHL instead of splitting starts which I believe was the original plan anyways.

DD and Milic deserve a season as the moose tandem... can get an ahl goalie at any time if one gets hurt

I agree - but I think that cap space will be burning a hole in his pocket. So I will just hope he makes another Niederreiter type move.
If you are a playoff team you always look to build your depth, because the grind takes its toll. The Jets can't really measure their depth yet, as Coghlan is likely the next player to get waived to make room for Heinola. I still think JAD can surpass Gustafsson on the depth chart this year, when he gets back into form. The young guns may not get their chance, they may be relied upon to learn from the experience of another pro season.

Jets can use Cap space to call up players, or to acquire them. Trade deadline is usually a frenzy. I don't see another Monahan type trade as long as the PP is clicking. Still a good 45 games left to play before Chevy can make an assessment of where he is at, and who he is competing against.

I look your Roster. I understand why your team has a really strong start. A lot of player are in the right chair + elite goalie. This is a really good job done by Cheveldayoff. I notice the only thing, maybe the only player on the wrong chair is Namestnikov on second centerman. Are you looking guys to add a center a la Mikael Granlund or Brock Nelson?. i think it could be the only last piece to the puzzle

if they add it will 100% be for somebody that can play with speed otherwise it's pointless

Agree. I think Toffoli was a big miss because he plays a slow, non-pressuring style and forced Perfetti to the press box. Monahan was okay, but really didn't add much at 5v5, and also didn't play a high-pace style.

I think Chevy and the coaches realized that misjudgment and will likely focus on speed for any add at C. Kupari's effectiveness shows how a big C with top-end speed can be effective in Arniel's system.

Brock nelson is a speed player. I would target him. Isle arent really strong and he is UFA
I think the cost would be high, and I could see the Wild in play there, as they have a lot of Cap space available next year when the buyout cost of Suter and Parise is no longer $14 million.

Namestnikov has been a solid 2C this year, and Lowry wins more than his fair share of matchups playing over 15 minutes a night. Last year the 2C need was precipitated by a poor PP and poor faceoff percentage, two things that are hardly an issue this year. You can win in the NHL with Karlsson, Stephenson types at C, it doesn't always have to be 1-2. Especially if you have goaltending. I think the Jets will be looking for a Brendon Dillon like player at the bottom of the lineup as top priority. Most would say Stanley is the weakest link. But even that's not for certain because I could see Arniel going with a Fleury/Heinola platoon at 6/7 d, on both sides of special teams, to give his stars more ice time up front. I would take Mike Matheson for Heinola and a 2nd rd pick, because I feel like he's a guy who could thrive with some defensive structure, and there was something going with the Jets early in the season when they had 3 LD who could all push the pace.

I think there was a regression when Namestnikov was knocked out of the top 6 last year, and you may not want to do that again here. Bumping a guy like Namestnikov knocks out Barron, who is probably the least guaranteed spot at forward, but a guy who gets first unit PK reps.

I don't see a reason to burn a million on an AHL goalie. You can always find guys like him later in the year if need be. DiVincentiis has been excellent for the Moose so far and there is no need to block him needlessly.
He is better than Comrie. Comrie will end up on the Moose at some point this season.

Whenever Chevy makes a trade I think ‘WTF…wasnt thinking that’. So here is my prediction. He trades Ehlers.

I don't think giving him more starts is blocking him.

What are we seriously going to do about Ehlers? You can't trade him for picks if we are in contention, which it looks like we will be, and losing him for nothing would be a super tough pill to swallow. Could we sign him mid-season?

Lots of unknowns here, but I still believe we sign Ehlers before the TDL. I'm calling $8 X7.
