Kashawn is our guy.

Guy is a DL culture changer/ Clifford type, top 4 guy.
Cool. Have not seen footage of him yet, but will find some. He came up 2 yrs ago for part of the season w the Barrie Colts, in Brandt Clark’s 61 pts in 31 games, so Clarke knows him.

Heard Kashawn is tough. Ranked between 16-22 on most lists. Kings need legit top 4 D in the prospect pool. Most all of D prospects looking like 4-6 types. Dvorak, Booth, Kirsanov, Salin, Woolley. Of course, possible for one to be a 3/4.

You can get away with those last 2 periods against the Sharks. You can't get away with that against the Oilers.

If you want to be political about it, they've gotten 10 points out of a possible 16 after a 7 game road trip to start the season with no Doughty, which all things considered isn't bad.

But there's a lot things to be concerned about. Special teams? Terrible. Only 1 line seems to be clicking. Faceoffs are consistently bad. Goaltending is suspect right now. Our up and coming defenseman is having growing pains.
Our future number 1 center is already back playing wing.

Hiller should take ownership for that mistake too.

When you are up 1 or 2 goals in the final couple minutes of a game there is zero reason to send Kevin Fiala onto the ice.

I don't hate Fiala as much as some people here do, he has an important role on this team, but that role does not involve being on the ice in the final minutes in defensive situations.

I have spent a lot of time gathering video among other projects, and fell behind on my shift-by-shift stuff.

I'll try to get something up by Monday if you don't find anything before then.

Yet, he made one of the best defensive plays of the game....kinda hard to figure out

well said

Fiala needs to cut out the bad stick penalties that always seem to come at the exact worst time

Yeah if I’m hiller and I need a defensive close out I’d definitely flipping Fiala for Turcotte
How would you feel about filling in...... if ,in theory, we had this guy make you a Hiller skin suit?

I spent yesterday afternoon checking for tickets to the game a couple of times hoping to score some cheap tickets in the PR level. I eventually forgot to check back after I got lunch around 4PM. I then proceeded to forget about this game entirely until I was going to bed around 11PM and just watched highlights.

This team is just good enough to avoid the bottom yet lacks the talent to get pass the first round let alone be considered a SC contender.. mediocrity at it’s finest

Said it last season and still feel the same way, it’s time to sell some of the older pieces and give the kids even more time..
Danault for picks, 1st is very much possible
Gavrikov for maybe a young G like S.Knight or a 1st
That alone lines up Kopitar, Byfield, Turcotte and later Helenius down the middle

2 but more likely 1 of Fiala, Moore and Kempe should be moved to clear cap and recoup assets.

but this is all just hopes and dreams

Man, Laferriere is a PLAYER.

IMO they should start to use him more on PP1. Get him some more touches and start to try to feed him pucks in that bumper slot. His shot may not be elite but it's good enough where he'd score some goals from that area. You also generate lots of rebounds when shooting from that area.

Yep... If the Kings continue to look like this (very mid), this is 1000% the right approach. The crazy thing is, the Kings could actually set themselves up really nicely if they went this route (assuming they made some smart moves/signings along the way - which obviously isn't a given lol).

Like imagine they traded Fiala, Moore, Danault, and Gavikrov for picks/prospects and just used the rest of the season to give Byfield, Clarke, Turcotte, Spence, and Laferriere as much ice time as possible. Trading those 4 players would free up over $23m in cap space for the Kings and the cap is going to go up another $4-5m at least. That means the Kings could have nearly $30m in cap space going into next off season. With that kind of money, you can sign a top pairing LHD (maybe in the $7m range) and a top 6 scoring winger (maybe in the $5-6m range) and still have money to fill out the rest of the roster.

You'd do all that while also prioritizing the young players that need to be the future of this team. Then you can start to build something around Byfield, Turcotte, Clarke, Laferriere, and Spence, who all will have just spent this season in elevated roles learning from their mistakes and working through growing pains.

But as we all know, management is going to try to milk every last win they possibly can out of this team so they can try to save their own jobs. Sad.

Dominated a bad team for 10 minutes. Foegele getting rewarded for going to the net. Took foot off the gas & almost lost it. Refs clearly had a beef with Lewis.

Top 6 did nothing against bad team.

Kings barely win. Byfield, Fiala, Kopitar, Kempe with no points against arguably the worst team in the NHL!
This is a big problem. They really need to get Byfield with Fiala. And put Laf with Kopitar and Kempe again. Kopitar isn’t really doing anything.

And the Kings #1 20 OA pick. They took Liam Ohgren, who’s already playing on the Wild at age 20. Not sure who the Kings would have taken at 20, but there was some good talent there.
I wish the Kings had the balls to just play young players without having to have them go through the depths of hell in the AHL. Akil Thomas still can’t crack the line up and we have some f***ing useless bum like Lewis taking a roster spot when we also dick around a guy like Kaliyev for what reason? This season proves that the Kings don’t have good shooters but wtf are we doing about that? Messing with Kaliyev. If he was healthy he’d help the PP at minimum. But if he was healthy right now he probably still wouldn’t be given a spot.
